Question about 1997 Saab 9000

1 Answer

Oil Leak Hi, My son has a 1997 Saab 900Turbo 2.0. He has two leaks which I can not find. The first is the oil leak on the lower front area near the bottom of the radiator where the lower radiator hose attaches to the bottom of teh radiator. This is definitly oil not antifreeze. The second is a leak up on the th top of the enginee where the upper radiator hose attaches to the top of the enginee. This is a new hose and the area directly upper has lime green fuild which I can not find anythng wet or dripping. Could this be AC instead of antifreeze? Regards, Frank Email: frank.ball@harting.com

The oil leak at bottom of radiator could be oil cooler and/or supply hose. Try check closely for wettest area .
The other leak could be thermostat cover, it only uses a sealing ring and is prone to leaking after time.

Oil leak? pan or valve cover? placed cardboard template under oil pan-shows oil all over area template?

there are only but a few leak points, on this water cooled engine.
  1. valve cover gasket tops list.
  2. the 2 distributor o-rings, leaks down bell housing.
  3. or the distributor base housing not mounted and sealed by the book. (need book?)
  4. front cam seal (cover off look)?
  5. front crank seal (or the bolt was never set to 94ft/lbs, torque. 17mm head bolt.
  6. pan never leaks its glued on day one in the Cami factory with RTV, unless prev. owner fiddled with it. (new oil pump done wrong)
  7. last it the rear oil seal, rear to leak.

there are only 2 way sto find leaks, get it clean, drive short distance.
see what leaks.
or
use the dye kit, a kit with UV lamp and dye, pack.

id do a #! valve cover, the 60k mile inspection , adds one, and most of these cars get on 60k service, ever , so the gaskets are all hard.
and useless on every one ive ever seen.

Having an oil leak at the bottom of my camry, not the oil pan gasket what else could it be.

There are three other area's that can leak, here they are in order of how often they occur
1.Engine Valve cover gasket(s) (2 if V6 engine), oil runs down the engine and drips off the pan.
2.Rear crankshaft seal leaking
3.Front crankshaft seal leaking. Oil is blown back by air pressure while driving and rips off of pan.

Red /yellow cloured oil leak around behind front wheel line

if it is yellow it could be the aircon compressor, if it is really red to pink, power steering or automatic transmission leak

Leaking oil was told it had an upper and lower oil pan is this correct? Was told in order to repair upper pan , engine needed to come out, this sounds extreme. what can be done to fix the problem?

to examine this firstly buy some degreaser, clean the engine so the location of the leak can be pin pointed, take it to anothe mechanic for a second opinion {always the wiser move}, always into saving money. Good luck

What are some solutions for a 1994 Camaro Z28 Lt1 engine, that has hesitation when at lower speeds. Some sputtering happens also. Have tried the usual fuel injectors. Occasionally this problems smooths...

The rear seal of the intake manifold will leak but the sendinging unit for oil pressure is more likly. if it's just a light on switch just change it for general practice as their cheap and the distrubutor drive can leak but you need the swich removed to check this area as the valve covers leaking are the most common problem don'et overlook them as they leak in all kinds of ways. miles and or time tells me how bad a leak is you can let'er sit and the oil drain plug can leak a 1/2 quart but you don't even drive itand does it leak if it sits? can you look under thew car with it running and see it drip? a 1/2 quart leak is easy to find unless you drive real far in 3 days. Oil pressure sending unit ( bet-so)

Hi: an oil leak at the front RS corner of the oil pan and front cover on a 1996 7.3L E350 powerstroke, requires the front cover to come off to get resealed, but something is holding it on at the bottom...

I do not know what (or where) the front RS corner is. Is your leak in the oil pan gasket or in the front cover gasket.... This is just a guess... but I suspect that the front cover needs to be pulled UP not OUT.
It seals around the crankshaft... and the seal will not let it come out.... but normally allows it to come up.
If the problem is with the oil pan, the loosen all the bolts, then lower the pan a bit, insert some silicone sealent over the gasket surface and retighten all the bolts. This has worked for me several times in the past.

I noticed my subaru leeking oil, i checked the oil level and was fine and eveytime i drive fast there is a small bit of smoke and burning smell from the engine can anybody help???

Hi, you may have a valve cover gasket leak that is dripping on the exhaust manifold. I would inspect the valve cover area for oil spots and rim leaks. The smoke is coming from the dripping of the oil on the manifold or, lower exhaust pipe.

Please rate and god bless:)
