Question about 2008 Volkswagen Touareg

1 Answer

Vauxhall Astra estate, steering column defect.

The steering column has disintegrated. The bottom bush has broken and the ball bearings fallen out. My local Vauxhall garage advise the whole column must be replaced.
An independant engineer mentioned that Vauxhall have a problem with their steering columns, relevant to Astra's of exactly the age of my vehicle.
I checked verbally with my Vauxhall garage and they said the system does not show a recall for my vehicle. However, they obviously have a self interest not to pursue this. I would like to independantly check this. Can you help?
My car is:
Registration: S214 HJO.
Date of first registration in UK: 07.01.1999
VIN/Chassis/Frame No. WOLOTGF35W8087903

I have a similar problem but not that bad yet there is a couple of millimetres movement on the steering wheel when it is pulled and pushed. I didn't think it was a big problem but enough to fail the MOT. I took a quick look at it and thought it was just the top bearing but now that I've seen this it must be on the lower bearing as well

check the bearings in the top and bottom of the ball that the front axle stub turns on. Check the steering box bearings and adjustment. check the bush under the steering wheel in the column. Check the steering shocky for free operation ( shaft not bent). check the wheel alignment because if the springs have sagged then the castor setting will be too far negative .

I have 1990 ford f150 & when I drive it is all over road ie sways etc hard to keep it on road

There are many reasons for this problem. Check the following: Tire size and inflation, tie-rods, wheels bearings, ball-joints, center link, pit-man arm, alignment, twin-beam bushings, broken spring, sticking brake caliper, worn or loose steering box, cracked frame, worn, loose, or defective steering column components. I hope this information helps, please let me know what it was, good luck.

Steering Wheel noises

What kind of noice are we talking about. If it is a wining noice it could be the power stearing pump but if it is a grinding noice it would be best to change the whole column it will save you alot of headache.

Okay, my boyfriend owns a 2000 ford f-250 super duty and your prolly wondering as to why im asking about this instead of him ... well im more mechanically inclined then he is lol funny huh... okay heres...

It sounds like the shift tube bushings are worn out. There are usually 2 u shaped clamps that have nylon bushings that hold the shift tube to the steering clumn. If loose, that throws off the shift position, could be btween 2 gears at once, and throws off the park - neutral safety switch. Fix that first.
