Hi,

To my knowledge, most versions of Subaru Legacy has the fuel filter inside the engine bay (under the hood), driver's side pretty near the master brake cylinder. tI is held by a clamp and would have two tubes for the in/out hoses. There are some versions of this car that have the filter incorporated with the fuel pump inside the tank.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

    Hi again,

The fuel filter would look something like this
. If for some reason there is no visible filter, please check if there is some sort of break/junction along the visible engine side fuel line. It is possible that there was originally a fuel filter there installed but was removed.

If on the other hand, the fuel line is a continuous (no junction/joints) then it can be assumed that your particular model has the filter closer to the tank and in most cases inside the tank incorporated into the pump system as earlier posted.

Sounds likely to be the fuel filter which is located under the hood on the left hand side close to the brake master cylinder. It is of the cartridge type, so if it has not been serviced lately, throw it away and get a new one.

Loping idle with a '98 Subauru 2.5

This usually happens when the fuel pump is loosing pressure.

I will just advice you make a replacement on the fuel pump. It is located in the fuel tank beneath the back seat.

Be sure to consider the rating on the fuel pump when replacing.

Good luck and rate my solution.

Hello SUBY bro, we've got an 05 Legacy 2.5i

Here is your answer which I'm quoting from LEGACYGT.COM: " The fuel filter in the 05s is in the fuel tank and there is no scheduled replacement interval." The same should be for your 06 model
