The remote does not work, and it was difficult to open the lock on the doors with the button on the door. Worked when we open ´held open the handle from the inside while pushing the button.

If the remote's battery has never been replaced, it's probably time now. The type of battery employed in these has a 'shelf-life' of around 5 years so if yours hasn't been replaced, you are overdue.
As far as the failure of individual door locks to operate, the mechanism may have corrosion that is impeding their travel. Check the owner's manual, it may give information about freeing sticky locks.
If you don't have an owner's manual, I can recommend the Haynes service manuals. They cost ~$20-$30 US and can be had in most auto parts stores.

It could be dirty terminals in the key fob, also make sure the battery is the correct way round, positive facing up, hope this helps.

Central locking not working

Remember the radio system in use requires both a transmitter (your keyfob) AND a unit inside the vehicle itself to receive the transmitted LOCK/UNLOCK signal from the keyfob. Like ALL radio signals, this is susceptible to noise and interference, so having trouble unlocking your car right next to a radio station tower might be perfectly reasonable!

If you have changed the battery already, my next step before bringing the vehicle in for professional repairs would be to purchase a new key. You most likely will need to bring the vehicle in anyway, to sync the new key with the vehicles receiver. My advice is contact your dealer! Sorry!!

Golf 1.4 99 ..central locking not working

Can you operate the central locking once inside the car? Does your interior light come on when you open the drivers side door? If those are both the case, then you may have a bad door microswitch. If your car can't detect your drivers side door being closed, the central locking will not operate from the keyfob. If the microswitch is bad, you may need to take it to a garage to have it serviced as the procedure is complicated. See this website for details:
