My check engine light is on sometimes blinks, vsc light on and the other vs? lights on. new emissions in sept oil good radiator fluied good. is this a big problem should I tow it or drive it to be checked

When you have a blinking service engine light it means that there is a problem that can damage the emissions system such as a spark plug or injector problem. When the computer senses this problem it goes into limp mode.
Thus th VCS and TRAC off lights. Scan your motor and see what codes come up.

The check engine light is drivability which affects emission and to protect the catalytic,when this light comes on VSC is disabled.This helps protect the catalytic.

Hi, have you scanned the vehicle to see why your check engine light is on? IF no, you need to. Toyota/Lexus computer system illumniates both engine light and VSC lights whenver a fault occurs in either unit. VSC or stability control is like trac-control or ABS braking system. Get car scanned and make sure all computers are scanned for additional codes, repair them first reset lights and test drive. ON a side note, fixing check engine light will usually take VSC light away also, however sometimes the VSC system will glitch out and a Steering Angle relearn is necessary, it takes about 3mins to perform and a good quality scan tool with 2004 current software. Most of the time the VSC light will come on with check engine and trac off light. (picture of veh with squiggle lines behind it) Whatever triggers a Check eng turns the vsc and trac systems off. could be a loose gas cap or something related to emissions system. Most times it will have to be diagnosed. Veh maybe equipped to turn vsc off, there would be a button for it.

VSC lights always go on during a "Check engine" period so just get the engine fault code and DIY or go to a TRUSTED mechanic (or someone you trust goes to).It is likely an emissions problem.

Toyotas and Lexus cars have some unique feaures. If your fuel cap is loose or the O2 sensors on the exhaust are faulty this results in an emission problem and the engine computer unit (ECU) engages the check engine light and disables the VSC (the VSC light comes on to warn you that it has been disabled). However you have p0500 code which says the car has no speed sensor signal. The seed sensor is located on the side of the final drive from the transmission and its job is to measure the speed of rotation of the output shaft. The ECU will compare the signals from this shaft along with the speed sensors in the wheel hubs. If there is a difference between these signals the VSC is engaged to apply braking effort to which ever wheel is slipping (running faster) than the other or that the transmission speed sensor would warrant.
So you either have an emission fault has fed back to the VSC and speed sensor missing (p0500) condition, or you have a faulty sped sensor which has tripped the VSC light and in turn the CEL.
Check your fuel filler cap is on tight, turn radio off and disconnect the negative lead to the battery for 5 minutes (this should clear the ECU memory of the code error). If p0500 error and CEL and VSC lights come back on then check the electrical connection to the speed sensor. Ensure it is clean and making a good contact, check the wiring for continuity. If everything else looks good consider changing the speed sensor.

Battery was diconnected for 1 minute and then reconnected. All lights are off.

When you say malfunction indicator , do you mean `check engine`` light.
These paired lights can indicate a change in engine air flow and fuel mixture. Try a fresh tank of premium fuel, but first a unscrew and re-screw the gas cap until it ratchets into place. The lights can be triggered by a loose gas cap, a fouled O2 sensor, and several other emission related problems including sticking throttle body components, etc.
This can sometimes be sprayed with carb cleaner inserted in the snorkle area of the air intake where teh snorkle meets the metal intake.

As compgeek09 stated, yes the DTC (diagnostic trouble code) should be found out first. And yes, AutoZone or Advance Auto Parts should be able to retrieve the code for you. Then you should be able to tell how severe the problem is.

Yes, you should still be able to drive the vehicle. When the check engine light starts flashing is when you should stop driving the vehicle. Also, if your city/state require smog emissions, the vehicle will probably fail the test. Then you'll be required to repair the problem.

Lastly, Vehicle Stability Control. That light is probably related to the check engine light since it sounds like they both came on at the same time. The VSC controls engine power. Thus, if there is a problem with the engine (check engine light), the VSC can't do it's job.

Once the check engine light problem is repaired, the VSC light should go off as well.
