The cam sensor is the "high voltage switch", more commonly refered to as the distributor.
You are probably trying to figure out why you have a cam-crankshaft
correlation error code.if the distributor has been disturbed for any
reason i.e. tune-up or intake gasket repair, it is not aligned exactly.
Tweak it slightly and restart the engine. if the code goes history, you
got it. P.S. it may even be unplugged.

Dear Jean, this looks hard but it's not,!!!!!cam sensor is located on front of motor next to water pump, it's an eazy fix ,but back to the crank sensor you can't just change it an expect it to start, NOW PLEASE FOLLOW THIS go to auto zone and regester, (its free),and follow these steps after you give vehicle info (that you didn't give me motor size)(3.6L dohc or 3.4L ohv) go to( repair help) you'll get a drop down then click on (vehicle repair guides) that will open a new window go to bottom of page to (engine performance & emissions), that takes you to new page look to left side and click on (componets & systems,) now select crank sensor and(((( READ))) how to reset the learing mode for crank sensor . then go to (cam sensor ) if you want more info on it, I REALLY hope this helped you if so let me know .
this code is indicated the cam signal was lost, however the engine will run with a simultainous mode.
you need to check to see if this vehicle equipted with an anti-thief system. look on the instrument cluster to see if the theft light is there, also if the key has a chip on it.
if there is then you need to look in to the vehicle security system
1991 Buick Rivera only came with a 3.8L engine known as the 3800
The crank sensor is behind the Harmonic balancer / Crank pully. Special tool required to remove pully without damageing it. once pully is off the crank sensor is held inplace by 2 bolts.
The camshaft sensor on this engine was located on the passenger side of the engine. You will need to remove the serpentine belt, and you can get to it by removing the inner fender or splash guard and get to it that way. I went down from the top. There are two sensors, one is a CRANKSHAFT sensor and other is a cam sensor. Make sure you know which is which. The crankshaft sensor is at the bottom of the engine, the camshaft is right by the water inlet. It is held in by 1 or 2 bolts. the camshaft sensor is not too hard to replace, it's tight but it can be done. unbolt the old and bolt in the new. Make sure you disconnect battery before tackling this project.
If you have the 4 cyl, look in upper engine area, end of valve cover, mounted in front side of water outlet.
If it's the 6 cyl, Passenger side upper engine area, below alternator, mounted in intake manifold.
1991 3.8 liter engines used a Mass Air Flow sensor in the intake tract (measures incoming air) instead of a MAP sensor. The MAF sensor is located on the engine just behind where intake hose is attached.
