Re: 91 SATURN GEAR SHIFTING PROBLEMS IT GRINDS AND WONT...
You still own a 1991 Saturn? That was its own animal. Saturn changed the wrong setup for 1992. Anyway, the problem is the Third gear syncronizer blocking ring has failed. you will need to have this trans rebuilt or replaced.
a 6ya Mechanic can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

CarGurusApr 6, 2014 - Your cars computer gathers info on speed in order to shift gears properly.... then you won't have a speedo and the ECM will not tell the TCM to shift gears in the trans. .... Car: 2003 Dodge Neon SXT, automatic transmission.
The only thing cheaper is to drain the fluid and replace with the correct fluid and ask the Parts Salesman of what additive might work best in your transmission. Check the Fluid in the Clutch Cylinder. Bleed it after it is topped off. This could help.
i had same problem i replaced the slave cylinder and removed the hydraulic clutch dampiner right next to slave cylinder now no grinding plus quicker shifts operates like a performance clutch with out the cost. slave cylinder cost $25 there is a do it yourself video on you tube. must remove dampiner and rejoin hydraulic line with a connecter for the added performance.
Your car is in "limp"mode because the computer doesn't know what speed your doing,So it doesn't shift, There are three possible reasons for this, #1= input sensor faulty on transmission, #2=output sensor faulty on transmission, #3=speed sensor faulty on transmission, you need to have the transmission codes read to know which one,Autozone checks codes for free.
sounds like you got a bad shift syncro for 3rd gear, its inside the trans, cuse ive never adjust shift cables on a s-series now matter what was done to the trans, and that cable controls more than just 3rd gear so its gotta be the syncro,,sorry,,,cheaper to get a used trans than to fix
