Question about 2000 GMC Jimmy

GMC automatic transmission

My name is Paul and I have a 2000 GMC Jimmy. It has an automatic transmission. When I put it in reverse it acts like it's in neutral. The fluid is topped off. It's acts fine in drive. What could cause this? Burnt band?

When I put my car into reverse, it will make a noise but go no where. I was told by the repair shop that there was a recall but I can't find that notice anywhere. The repair shop told me that they saw a memo stating that the parts they used in the transmission (at GMC) were substandard. Is GMC responsible for repairs?

Had same problem several years ago, had trans rebuild and problem came back in a few thousand miles. I asked trans shop to research problem, they found a tech tip somewhere that showed a design defect that kept slight pressure on clutches when idling engine in neutral or park. At the time I did this a lot waiting for kids at sports functions etc, idling in Park... The shop said the fix required drilling small relief hole in one of the parts that would allow pressure relief when in neutral or park with engine running. I had this done and trans has been flawless ever since 175000 miles.

yes i have the same problem with me transmission

I'm told and read a sun shell may be broke. Common problem for this vehicle. Shop will possibly rebuild and use aftermarket kit parts to correct problems the transmission had originally. Cost is probably between $1300 to 1600 to repair. Good luck I got the same problem on a 97 Jimmy and 3 shops said the same thing.

I have a 2000 GMC Jimmy. It has an automatic transmission. When I put it in reverse it acts like it's in neutral.

Does the transmission actually go into reverse when selected and the indicator shows neutral or does it not go into reverse and the indicator displays reverse and the tranny is in neutral?

2000 gmc jimmi shift solenoid a stuck on reverse not work

No reverse is a dead giveaway of a failed transmission. You must remove it and replace it or rebuild it. P0752 code will not cause the loss of reverse gear.

My 2001 GMC Jimmy 4x4 Automatic with 84K miles. It winds when I put it in reverse and I think I only have 1st and 2nd gear. Additionally it revs high, like over 3000 rpm, delays and then eventually...

It winds up in 1st and then shifts right from 1st into 3rd. Then never shifts into 4th. Plus rev is gone. You broke the sun shell. The transmission will need to rebuilt or replaced.

1997 GMC Jimmy, Won't go into reverse, but all other gears work,ok.

Check the automatic transmission fluid color.

It should be lite pink and there is ZERO odor of burn friction material.

TOP OFF is it's low on ATF

Have some one the check on the reverse light when you put the truck into the reverse gear.

NO reverse lights then the neutral safety is falling.

Check for free play on the gear lever. Pay close attention on the transmission end.

USE clear to remove excess dirt.

Inspect transmission pan and the floor for ATF leak.

2000 GMC Jimmy, atuomatic, v6,2wh dr - NO

You lost reverse band will need to have the back part of the transmission torn down to repair, if your lucky it will be about $450.00 or if not it will be about $1600.00 for a complete overhaul. They have a problem with the rear main shaft seal. You may also may get lucy with just being a bad servo or stuck piston or a shift lever out of adjustment.
