Question about 2005 Ford Escape

Stalling when letting up on gas

I have a 2005 Ford Escape, 4 cyl 2.3L, for the last 2 months we have had a lot of problems with stalling when we pull into a place and let up on the gas. At first we thought it was bad gas, and put additive in the tank, and it worked great. The next several tankfuls, it did the same thing. It didn't stall for awhile with the additive and then it would stall again. We've replaced the fuel filter and the escape has be "reprogrammed" but know we're back to the stalling.

Help! Any ideas? I'm not trusting for Ford mechanics very much!

How about the ol' torque converter! After three trips to a certain Ford dealership, who cleaned out the gas tank "as best they could", and a few hundred dollars in charges later, we took the Escape to a private mechanic named Mark who diagnosed the problem in one stall! GOD BLESS HIM! He felt so bad giving us the bad news that he did not charge us a penny. He even took the gas tank off and completely cleaned it out. We then took the Escape to another dealership (1 1/2 hours away from home) who did some checking and confirmed the private mechanic's diagnosis. Now $1600.00 less in our saving's account we feel we are now able to strap our babies in the back seat again and go places without too much worrying. I just feel sorry for the kids that we can't afford new shoes for them now. Just kidding! I've got to find some humor in all the mess that we've been through!

I just had the same problem with my 2001 Escape- replaced the fuel filter, no help. Turns out I needed to replace the idle air valve. It took 5 minutes, and I'm back up and running!

1. Air filter, clean the air filter first and try it again, if it is the air filter cause this problem and get a new one put in.

2. check your oil cover cap, see if there are some white steam bubbling mixed with oil, if it is, maybe either the head gas kit or the block leaking, also check your coolant level. sometime you will see oil in your radiator. means the block is leaking

Hope this can help a little bit

3. Cooling fan doesn’t function right and cause over heat.

4. How many miles on this car?

I wish I can be there for you, let discuss this

I started my 2006 ford escape and went to put it into drive and it stalled what could the problem be. I filled it 1/4 with gas last night could it be the gas.

dont think you can get diesel through the opening in the tank but ??? Could be a crank sensor or anything causing the problem doubt if its the petrol though

My son has a 1998 Ford Contour and after his last fill up it started stalling. Did he use the wrong octane or is there a bigger problem?

Could be another problem. It`s just a coinicidince that the car started stalling. You could by gas at any gas station for this car. It could be cheap gas from a no name station, and the octane level would`t matter. I would be more concerned if he was driving a high end car like Jaguar, Mercedes, Porshe. etc.etc. -where you need a cetain level of octane. Have your son`s car checked by your service shop to narrow down the stalling problem..
Possible stalling conditions--lack of tune-up, vacuum leaks, ignition problems, fuel pressure. These are possible problems just to name a few. Have the car diagnosed..

Your probably getting vapor lock. Try pulling the nozzle out just a tiny maybe 1/4 inch and see if that helps.
