Question about 2004 Cadillac Seville

2004 cadillac seville sls rear brakes

I just installed new drilled and slotted rotors all 4 wheels with ceramic pads.
The rear wheels are over heating and the driverside is making a loud rumbling sound when just coming to a full stop. The right side does not make any noise.

Had Some New Rear Brakes installed on my 2001 Buick LeSabre V-6. I'm getting a Low Thumping Sound Like someone beating on a 55 Gallon Drum Now, Low-speed only, Not consistent

the shop is at fault as they have done the job and are required by law to find and fix any problems related to their workmanship
I would take it back and stand firm in your demand that they fix it under warranty any and all faults arising from their fittment of the parts and workmanship
other than that it sounds like the pads are hitting on a raised section of a disc and because it fades at speed ,it could be that the calipers are stuck on the mounting bolts and are not centralizing after brake operation
if the shop tries to "Fob" you off then see a lawyer to get results

Brakes vibrate the more they heat up, down hill with 5th wheel attached. I have change rotors and pads with no change, any ideas?

Sound like you over heated the the rotors and now there are worpped ..
You need to replace at least all parts in the fronts rotors pads and the calipers do the whole thing .
These parts are so cheap now a days their made in china . WE ARE TALKING 50 DOLLARS A SIDE FOR PARTS

What do i need to remove a rear rotor off a 1993 cadillac seville

Hello Rodrigo, Thank you for the question - the rotor removal is a simple job on the Seville. I will give you the complete procedure.
Raise and support the vehicle.

Remove the rear tires, unbolt the caliper from the bracket, unbolt the bracket from the spindle and clean and grease all slide plates and slide pins using synthetic caliper grease insuring the new brake pads will slide properly in the clean slide plates, remove old rotors from hub assembly, clean machining oil from braking surfaces of new rotors and install them on the hub assembly, reinstall both brackets on spindles and tighten bolts, using a "c" clamp press the piston back inside both calipers and reinstall both calipers on both brackets and tighten bolts, reinstall tires... torque all lug nuts to 100 ft lbs and place vehicle back on pavement.

DO NOT DRIVE VEHICLE. sit in drivers seat and press the brake pedal to the floor several times until the brake pedal feels secure under your foot you are now ready to drive... happy motoring

If the rotor is stuck, smack it with a dead blow, or soft faced hammer--- it will free up

After it is loose, pull it straight off of the wheel studs.

What kind of brakes are on my 1998 Cadillac Seville SLS? Are there disc brakes in front and back? or does it have drum brakes in the back?

Both, actually. In the front, disks.
In the rear the main braking is a similar disk, and much smaller is a drum, essentially in the hub area of the disk rotor. In there are cute little drum breaks that are the emergency or parking brake. Do inspect and adjust them, while you are in there.
Familiarize the feel and effectiveness of the parking brake before you start...so you will know.

Does this car require ceramic brake pads?

NO it does not require ceramic brakes. The ceramic brakes are just a different option to the type of brake pads available out on the market.
The ceramic brakes uses ceramic which helps keep the wheels cleaner. Ceramic brakes has less brake dust then conventional brake pads like the Semi metallic brake pads which leave more brake dust on the the wheels.
Note though that ceramic brake pads are harder and last longer with less brake fade then the conventional brake pads. The only thing about the ceramic is that they don't work as good as the conventional brake pads till the heat up during hard braking.
In short the difference between the two, ceramic last longer but you go through replacing your rotor every time you replace your brake pads and there is no brake fade but weak till they heat up.
Semi Metallic brake pads almost last as long, and leave more coating of brake dust on your wheels. Your rotor will last longer and great brakes and will have a slight brake fade when over heated from hard stopping from hight speeds.
Thank you for using fixya and be safe.

Rear brake noise after brake replacement

probably a dumb question, but if there is a backing plate, did you make sure it isnt bent and hitting the rotor? you never want to sand new rotors, although i dont think it would cause this concern. i would suggest lightly scuffing up the brake pads. this will eliminate any noise caused by the contact of the rotors and pads. if it goes away then you know its a problem with the pads/rotors.

scoring of only the inside rotors would make me think that possibly the caliper slides are frozen up. make sure they move quite freely on the slides. it is not uncommon for brake pads to score rotors though.

but brake noises at low speeds that dont' change when applying light brake pressure are usually some sort of metal or something contacting the rotor.

I just bought my 2004 buick lesabre and I already need new brake pads. I dont know whether I should get med grade pads or (high grade)ceramic pads. If I get the high grade would I special rotors?

You can use your stock rotors with ceramic pads. If you feel that the pads wore down too quickly then they may have been a less than optimal type. Keeping disc brakes clean is key to making them last longer. When there is brake dust and naturally occurring rust built up in the calipers and slides, then they don't release immediately or completely when you let off the brake pedal and they may actually drag your pads.

2000 cadillac sls: two displays: CHECK BRAKE FLUID and BRAKE lamp. rear pads have been replaced. brake fluid has been replaced. displays still do not clear.

Have you checked it to see if it is low? That would explain both lamps on. Have your brakes bled you may have air in the lines.

How do I change my rear brakes on my 2000 Cadillac Seville STS?

you will need to remove the parking brake cable from the caliper then remove the lower slide pin bolt, flip the caliper up and pull out the old pads and install the new ones. You should get the rotors machined for the best braking performance or replace them.
