Question about 1990 Pontiac Sunbird

1 Answer

Radio connection I am trying to hook up the radio, when my son used the little car he had a stereo hooked up, I am trying to plug things back in but only one side plugs in, and none of the other wires fit, if anyone has a picture of the set up it would be helpful, but I think I need a replacement wiring harness to get it back to original, can't seem to find one.

If he had an aftermarket stereo in the vehical then he had to cut the origional harness out of the way. the only solution for this would be to replace with another aftermarket stereo. I know this becaus ei had a ***** of a time trying to install my aftermarket.

I have a 1991 Lincoln Town car and I hooked up a stereo system an all at once my locks Windows stereo and air ride have went out I was wondering if you could give me a step by step on how to fix this

Could be to late. Could have blow the BCM. Unhook the radio and see if the other things start working. If they do, your lucky. Then find some to hook up the radio. I can install radios, but I use a volt /ohm meter. You can not trust the diagrams the radios come with. Or the diagrams I buy.

Why is there sound output when using am/fm but none when playing a CD?

Internal radio problem. There are two plugs for the CD in the radio. One for input/power. The other is for output/sound. If it is an expensive radio, pull the case off, look at the CD player and find the plugs to the main board. Unplug them and plug them back in, hook up the radio and see if it works.(could be that simple) Then reassemble the case. If it factory or cheap, just replace it with an aftermarket radio. This would be cheaper than an electronic repair.

My son's 1997 Honda Accord has an aftermarket stereo that works but his cigarette lighter doesn't. Could it be a fuse?

The thing is, whoever hooked up the stereo would know for sure where the connected into in order to get power to the stereo. If they went off somewhere ealse other than what the factory made to be the power for the stereo it would make sense. In the accord for your year the power to the stereo and the cigarette lighter is the same fuse if it was hooked to the same wiring that came with the vehicle. They may have by accident disconnected the lighter and it's just not hooked up at all. You can check the fuse for the cigarette lighter if you would like. that fuse is in the fuse panel located in the engine compartment and will be in the number 18 position and sould be a 15 amp fuse ( see diagram of the layout of fuses below). If that fuse is bad and corrects the problem then they hooked up to another power source when they hooked up the stereo. I hope this helps you and good luck.
