apollo13 thanks for the quick response, the cabin filter was behind the under dash cover.

The cover is attached with three clips, I pulled it downwards.

remove CLA wires, and access the cabin filter door.

The air filter was under the hood on passenger side.

MB dealer quoted me $189 for replacing the filters, parts cost $69, both filters changed within 30 min; saved $121.

Your climate filter located at glove compartment, you need to take off it,or sometimes it is in the grill near windshield, the filter you need to take off the cover in the engine then follow the airduck

What does clean mean on climate control

This probably means that the Cabin Air Filter needs replacing. Read about it in your Owners Manual. Newer Cars have a Filter installed just like your home central air/heating system.

Climate control schematic

There is a new mist service or cleaner for your heater system, they use a two step cleaning, first your system is fill with a cleaning foam that expands and pulls contaminants out, then your vehicle gets a spray through your fresh air intake and all windows close that will clean and leave your truck smelling fresh. ask your dealer or call around, replace your cabin filter with a carbon impregnated filter to help even more.

1998 Volvo S70 2.0L Air conditioner not working correctly

This may be one or two different problems. One could be the climate control unit itself. Surprisingly the problem with the air not changing the source will likely be remedied by a reprogramming by a Volvo dealer. Defrost is the delfault outlet if there is a problem with that system. As for the dial not having detents and the cold instead of hot air in the pass side, that could be programming, a disconnect with the heater door for the passenger side or it could be the control unit. 98 is a difficult year to diagnose and the dealer is likely the only one who can properly diagnose this car. The download at the dealer is an inexpensive fix. If there is a mechanical problem within the air system that could prove more costly. I'm not sure how much the control unit for the climate control system, but there are usually quite a few on ebay. Good luck and I would suggest visiting the dealer first for this one as it is the least expensive fix and could very well be the only problem.

How do you replace a Cabin Air Filter and air filter for vented front seats?

The seat filters are located underneath each seat, driver and passenger. Slide seat(s) all way forward. From the rear reach underneath and feel for a small square filter, about 2x3in. Grasp an edge and pull down , it will pop out. Replace same way. Good hunting finding replacements. Had to go to a dealer and order.
