Set the crank to TDC using the timing marks, Then look for an arrow or a mark on the cam shaft pully and another mark on the block. Line those up. Put the belt on, make sure the marks did not move.

1999 ford ranger timing marks 2.5

One is on the crank shaft pully (for TDC). It is a line, scribed on the pully, that alligns to a pointer on the plastic timing belt cover. The second is on the cam shaft pully. It can be accessed by removing the rubber inspection plug on the timing belt cover. The third is on the auxillary shaft (oil pump) and is also accessed through an inspection plug on the timing belt cover.

On the cam and oil pump pullies, the diamond aligns to the diamond and the triangle aligns to the triangle (the pullies have both). These should be perfectly aligned when the crankshaft pully line is at 0 deg TDC. If you can't see the marks through the inspection port while the crank is at 0 TDC, you are 180 degrees out - turn the crank one more time.

I have a 1988 ford ranger and it has A/C that doesn't work and want to get rid of it. its V6 2.9L. i was wondering if i take it out, will it affect the pully system or anything else?

If you are removing the compressor then yes it will affect the serpentine belt system. However that same engine was also probably made without a/c and if you can find out for sure that it was,you can use the belt made for that engine without a/c.It may be on another model of Ford, maybe even not a truck, perhaps even another make.(I did the same thing with my 1992 Buick and it required a belt from the same engine which was on a Chevy with no a/c).It will require a little research, perhaps call your mechanic, but someone somewhere knows.
Good luck!

A top pully on my 1995 ford ranger seized, I need

Hello. It sounds like you are describing the "idler pulley". Should be around $20 or less. Don't forget to remove the washer from the old pulley and put it back when you install the new pulley. I hope this helps, good luck with your repair.
