1993 GMC Sierra 2WD Truck Output Seal Leak - Looking for the service procedure to replace the transmission output shaft seal (which is leaking) and the transmission output shaft bushing (recommended when changing seal). The engine RPO is LB4 and the trans is M30. Can anyone point me toward an illustrated procedure as I am a fair backyard mechanic and would like to tackle this job myself...Thanks Carl

SOURCE: 1989 gmc sierra c1500 with 350 automatic 8 ft bed regular cab vibration at 45 in overdrive

I had the exactly the same problem, in overdrive my truck would start to shake, in 3rd it would instantly go away, i assumed it was the flywheel to, THIS IS NOT THE PROBLEM, your tranny is in good shape and flywheel are in good shape, I had the "Idle Motor" replaced is what my mechanic called it, this completely fixed my problem, also my fuel milage went up considerably after having this replaced, hopefully this will help you out

SOURCE: replace intermediate drive shaft in a 2003 GMC Sierra

we never did that. just battery disconect is sufficient. you can see the bolt to remove near the floor board pretty clearly as well as the one under the hood near the fire wall. You may have to turn the wheel alittle one way or the other to access both cleanly. The most important part of the job is this: dont let the steering wheel turn until you get the new shaft on. Why? there is a calibrated "air bag coil" in the steering wheel and if you let the wheel turn 360 degrees either way and then hook uo the steering shaft--the first time you make a full lock to lock turn it will snap the coil.

SOURCE: i'm replacing my transmission in my 1991 gmc full

If my memory serves me right, I'm pretty sure the only way to change the tail shaft is to tear the transmission apart. Depending on how much extra length you have you might be able to rig up some kind of spacer, but keep in mind that it will be supporting a lot of weight. You are probably better off finding the right transmission and re selling the one you have.

1995 passport troubleshoot slow leak in manual transmission

There is a seal on the input and output shaft and a seal on the top cover . A slow leak will have road dirt collecting on the leaking area. An input shaft leak will in time foul the clutch disk. An output seal will cause the drive shaft to be wet where it connects to the transmission.

1993 ford f150 front @back seal leak

Two separate fixes, suggest the first as you can do both easier. Drop drive shaft and starter and remove transmission. The front pump assembly will have to be removed from the transmission and the front bushing and seal can be accessed and replaced. inspect the input shaft to the torque converter to make sure there is no wear. That's on the area where the bushing rides. You can do the same with the rear bushing and seal and output shaft. While you are at it remove the pan and replace the filter. A mess at best but it would be highly advisable.

How do I install the rear transmission seal on a 1996 gmc sierra 3500 5 speed manual transmission?

For the rear seal, remove the drive shaft, and the seal should be very visible there. Very fortunate, as this is the easiest and cheapest seal there is to replace! Be extremely careful installing the new one, if using a hammer or similar installation item. If it isn't seated properly the leak will continue. Good luck.

Need a seal that goes behind the transmission where the shaft goes i need the part number and where i can find it

this all depends on if the truck is a 4wheel drive, are you looking for the seal at the transfer case where driveshaft goes or seal on the back of tranny where shaft goes, i assume from what you said its 2wd and you want seal at rear of tranny where driveshaft goes, heres the seal # and napa auto parts has it or you can have another auto part store cross number to there seal, good day seal # ATP 14982 and heres a picture of it, this is for a 4.0 engine ,johnjohn2_122.jpg

I own a 1993 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4 that has a leaking automatic transmission. It is Canadian made (not to sure if it makes a difference) with a 5.7L/350ci V8 with what I believe to be a 700r4 overdrive...

Its probably the 4L80E trans. Front seal might be possible. Sounds like torque converter to me. Does it still leak at that speed when the tranny is cold? Or just when its warm?

95 gmc sierra k1500 4x4 5spd manual noise

the leak is probably a separate issue from the noise. is the leak very bad? can you tell if it's engine oil or transmission lube/fluid? most likely the rear main bearing seal needs replacing. the noise is most likely the clutch release bearing. you should replace all components of the clutch assembly which include; clutch plate, pressure plate, release bearing and piolot bearing. also have the fly wheel resurfaced. while the trans is out, you can check the rear main seal and the trans input shaft seal and replace accordingly.

Rear main seal leak

Hi,

If somebody told you that you have a main seal leak what they meant was the round seal that is around the circumference of the output shaft of the crank. This same output shaft is basically hooked up to the transmission, or through to the transimission through a clutch. Well after some time, the round seal, it looks something like a flat donut, leaks. Imagine stretching a small spring around a shaft of steel and wrapping the spring in rubber. It will stop the oil from leaking along the shaft and out of the engine. After wear and tear, it needs to be replaced.

If this is the case, well, given that you have not said what type of vehicle you have, you would need to either pull the engine out or drop or pull out the transmission to get at the shaft and replace the $10 seal part. A lot of work for a small item but it will continue to leak until of course you run out of oil and ruin the motor.

I hope this helps somewhat.

Could be quite costly. Especially the rear main seal on the engine. You have to take the trans out to even get to it. I would look for something else with less problems to buy.
