Variable Speed Sensor on 99 taurus

I think you mean the Vehicle Speed Sensor(VSS).It is located on the transmission, somewhere on the portion of the housing that contains the differential and axles. Most speed sensors are a 2 wire unit, and often the wires are tightly twisted to reduce electromagnetic interference(this will probably help in identifying it)

I need help finding where the transmission speed sensor is located on a 1997 Ford Taurus GL.

its located on the tranny directly below the intake manifold. i think its about $35 or $40 to get one at a parts store.it sticks out at about a 45 degree angle pointed towards the drivers seat. you may have to get on top of the car and reach your arms down until you find it. theres only one bolt holding it on if i remember correctly. 10mm? i think. if you take it off, its not gonna be fun trying to figure out where the bolt goes back without being able to see. hope this helps.

My 2000 taurus would stay in first gear it would not shift and at the same time the speedomiter would not move even when driving in first gear on the internet they say it the transmission speed sensor when...

if your speedometer does not work i would change the output speed sensor that would be the two wire plug that bolts on to the top of the transmission, because that speed sensor get looked at from your transmission ecm and you engine ecm. Right now the computer doesnt know how fast your going so your car has moved into SAFE MODE this mode will not let you out of first gear and if your try to go faster it will stall the car. Good luck

1999 ford taurus transmission

Your problem is the speed sensor. The VSS (vehicle speed sensor)

is located on the right side of the transaxle, near where the right side axle shaft

connects to. To access this part is pretty tricky, if you are inexperienced. There

is an aluminum foil covered shield around the wiring connector. You will need to

remove the shield to gain access. You may even have a damaged wiring

connector, that is causing the problem due to the close proximity of this part to

the catalytic converter. If you want to purchase this part from the Ford dealer,

ask the parts counter person for the "basic" part number 9E731. Hope this helps.
