When I installed the new brake pads on the front of my 2005 kia rio, I could not slide it back over the rotor. Do I need a special tool, or something?

No all you need to do is slid a screw driver inbetween the pads and push them back till the pistons slid back into there cylinders,, the brake calibers will then fit over the rotors

No, you need to squish the caliper pistons back into the caliper so they will fit. Take a big c-clamp and do it very slowly or you will have brake fluid all over the engine. If they are self adj, you need to turn them in with pair of channelock pliers, They will self adj back out after you get going, check it out, hope this helps.

I need to replace the front brake pads on a 2005 Kia Rio. Is this simular to other cars or should i have an expert do it.

This worked for me.


1.Put front of vehicle on jack stands. Brace back wheels
2. Remove front wheel.
3. Using the C-Clamp squeeze the caliper so the piston goes back inside the caliper.
4. Using the 9/16 socket undo the 2 bolts that go through a rubber boot. There's one on the top of the caliper and the other one is the bottom of the [brake caliper. The reason I said not to use a deep socket is that the torsion bar link is kinda in the way so you can't fit a deep socket in there.
5. Once the 2 bolts are removed, remove the wire retaining clips. One wraps around the top pin that holds the brake pads together and the other clips onto the top and bottom pin. Remove the one that goes from the top pin to the bottom pin. You will not be able to take the other one out just yet.
6. Using your center punch or screw driver tap both pins out of the caliper. You will at this point be able to remove the other wire retaining clip.
7. At this point the caliper should be loose and you should be able to remove it. If you are just changing the brake pads then you're half way done. Replace old pads with new pads and reassemble in the reverse order.
8. If you are replacing the rotors as well then all you need to do is loosen both Phillips head screws that are holding the rotors to the hub. Be careful with the screws I happened to strip the head on one of these babies and let me tell ya it wasn't easy taking it out. Once the screws are removed the rotor should come right off. Might need a hammer to persuade it a little.

9. Install new rotor and brake pads and you are done.

It took me roughly 1 hour to do the brake job.
All in all it's a fairly straight foward brake job.

Front breaks 2002 kia rio

Front brakes would cost aprox: $180 or less for rotors+pads for the front. If you do it yourself. Hope this helps!

How do you remove the front brake rotor on a 2005 Pontiac Vibe?

To remove the brake rotor, you must first remove the brake pads and caliper. There are two bolts that hold the brake caliper in place. Remove the two bolts and tie the caliper up out of the way. Be careful not to break the brake line connected to the back of caliper. Once the caliper is removed, simply slide the rotor off. To install a new rotor, simply slide rotor over studs and replace the caliper with new brake pads. It is as simple as that.

Need help changing brake pads and routers on 2003

Remove brake fluid from the master cylinder brake fluid reservoir until the reservoir is approximately 1/2 full. Discard the removed fluid.
  1. Raise and safely support the front of the vehicle. Remove the front wheels.
    1. Remove or disconnect the following:
    2. Front brake caliper guide pin bolts
    • Brake caliper by slowly sliding it up and off the adapter and brake rotor. Support the caliper out of the way with a strong piece of wire. Do not let the caliper hang by the brake hose or damage to the brake hose will result.
    1. If necessary, compress the caliper piston into the bore using a C-clamp. Insert a suitable piece of wood between the C-clamp and caliper piston to protect the piston.
    2. Outboard disc brake pad from the caliper by prying the brake pad retaining clip over the raised area on the caliper. Slide the brake pad down and off the caliper.
    • Inboard disc brake pad from the caliper by pulling the brake pad away from the caliper piston until the retaining clip on the pad is free from the caliper piston cavity
  • To install:
    1. Be sure the caliper piston has been completely retracted into the piston bore of the caliper assembly. This is required when installing the brake caliper equipped with new brake pads.
    2. If equipped, remove the protective paper from the noise suppression gaskets on the new disc brake pads.
    3. Install or connect the following:
      • New inboard disc brake pad into the caliper piston by pressing the pad firmly into the cavity of the caliper piston. Be sure the new inboard brake pad is seated squarely against the face of the brake caliper piston.
      • Outboard disc brake pad by sliding it onto the caliper assembly
      • Brake caliper assembly over the brake rotor and onto the steering knuckle adapter
      • Caliper guide pin bolts and torque to: 35 ft. lbs. (47 Nm) on 2002–04 models or 26 ft. lbs. (35 Nm) on 2005 models
      • Front. Apply the brake pedal several times until a firm pedal is obtained.
    4. Check the fluid level in the master cylinder and add fluid as necessary. Road-test the vehicle.

    For the rotors:

    Front brakes on a 2005 Jeep Rubicon

    Once you take the caliper bracket off, the rotor should just fall off. If the Jeep stops without any vibrations I would leave the rotors alone., unless they are scored badly from brake pads worn out and metal to metal.

    300zx front brakes.

    Nothing more special than a basic metric socket set, a good size C-clamp, and maybe a screwdriver. Remove the wheel and unbolt the caliper from the hub (two bolts on the backside, I believe 17mm). Remove the brake fluid reservoir cap. Slide the caliper off the rotor and remove the outer pad. Use the C-clamp against the inner pad to compress the pistons back into the caliper to provide clearance for the new, thicker pads to clear the rotor. Do the same for the outer pistons. Install the new pads, remount the caliper, and put the wheel back on. Replace the fluid cap, pump up the brake pedal for pressure, then take it out and bed the pads in with several back to back stops from 30mph with steady, even pressure on the pedal. You'll be good to go at that point.
