That is the lifters or tappets doing that due to they could be warn out or also you have a slack oil pick up when the sound fades it means oil has reached them you will have to see a machanic to fix them around $150 to $220.

After driving my vehicle for 5 km or more a hear a sound coming from the engine sounds more like a knocking sound

There are two kinds of potential noises to be concerned about here. I assume the low oil pressure warning light is not on, or at least you did not mention it. When the engine is at operating temperature and at an idle, you may hear more of a "tick" sound with a frequency of about two or more ticks per second. This is valve train noise from either a mis-adjusted rocker arm or a failing lifter. However if after warm up, the noise is more of a "knock" and occurring at a frequency of half of the rate of a valve tick, or about once per second you have a more serious problem with a main crankshaft bearing or a connecting rod bearing. If this is the case adding oil will not help - the crankshaft is already damaged and the engine will require a complete overhaul.

Drain the oil and check for metallic particles - if present then there has been metal-on-metal contact somewhere in the bottom end and the engine has been damaged.

Loud ticking noise when first staring, engine stalls sometimes when starting it unless I hold the gas pedal down

The TPS would be what I would do had that problem once myself solved the problem. as for the ticking noise sounds like a lifter is bleeding down as long as the noise goes away you will be ok. But may I suggest that if you are going to keep the vehicle for awhile longer you might want to have a set of lifters put in it.

Pound ticking noise when my 99 durango starts goes away after the engine warms up

The ticking noise could be a faulty hydrulic valve lifter. When last was the oil & filter changed, it coul be that the oil is thick and not going through to the lifters and when it warms up the oil is thin. It could be that the engine is need of an overhaul as 148.000 miles is 238.182 Kilometers and that is a hi milage.

if it's a top end tick from the engine. probably because oil ran down and it just needs to lubricate the head again.
