whot damage would petrol do to a crdi engine, pump or injectors.Because a lot of people must make the mistake and should be told when buying, that if it is run on petrol its going to cost you a lot of money. RE Santa Fe.

I am a mechanic and has been told by a noall at work, petrol will do a lot of damage to the pump and injectors which i do not agree as the engine will not run long enough.

  • lgiddens Jun 25, 2008

He was told that the pump clearances were closer because of the high pressure they run and the petrol did not have the lube content as diesel. There for ,would damage the pump and rubber seals in injectors etc.system. I do not agree. whot do you think.

Check exhaust emission control system and catalytic converter.
These items have been integrated into a highly effective system which controls exhaust emissions while maintaining good driveability and fuel economy.

Did your car's fuel pump or injectors have any damage?

Did you drive your car for more than 4km?

fuel pump (item no 2) is rotary. Ask him what kind of damage is expected if instead of pumping gasoline, pumps for some minutes petrol-gasoline mixture. Note that when you filled with petrol, tank was not empty.

In general at work shops they try to gain as much as they can.

Hi Mark, I've just had the same problem with my 2007 Sante Fe. After replacing water pump, radiator, thermostat, etc, turns out it was the cylinder head gasket. No water in oil, but engine pressurises the water system, blowing water out the overflow. Cheers

02 hyundai santa fe died abruptly driving down the highway and wont restart the engine cranks but won't start it is the v-6 model

Never seen a big engined petrol one of these ,diesel manuals yes plenty abound ,but this year model on the diesel anyway suffers from a crankshaft keyway problem and it wears away allowing the front pulley and timing gear to move allowing the pistons to hit the valves ,now later models had a deeper keyway as a remedy but yours is a 2002 and this could suffer the same problem as the diesels. So check the timing marks first before you change this and that ,V6 petrol ?? try paying 7 dollars a gallon and then say if the diesel isnt the best for economy

Check your airfilter its in the big black box on the driver side under the hood if its dirty it will make your engine consume more diesel just replace it by a new one the color should be orange or white.
