Question about 1999 Ford Taurus

Engine dies After we have a heavy rain. When we go through a 3' to 4' puddle the battery light comes on and the engine dies. We put it into nutreal and restart the engine and it starts right away. We bought the car new and they changed out the belts at 5 years. tehproblem started after they changed the belts. I took it back 5 times for this problem. 1. they tightend the belts, 2. the changed the battery, 3. They changed out one of the battery cables, 4. they changed out the other battery cable, 5. they changed out the idler, 6. They installed a baffle that I told them I thought was missing ( I told them that I thought there was a baffle missing after the 3rd try. They told me there wasn't a missing baffle They said they called the hot line and found nothing. It has to be a electrial problem. What is underneath there that could cause this problem. Thank you, Luther Hilty

My BMW X5 2008 airconditioning wont work after driving through heavy rain and deep puddles

how deep of water were you in??if the alternator belt got wet as did all the belts.. they wont "hook up" untill they dry enough to grab..did your battery light or check engine light activate? this means your car was running on the battery until the belts dry out enough to reconnect without sliding over the pulleys..when this happens all power goes to the engine..

Car tries to stall after travelling through very minor puddles/rain

Have you ever replaced the plug wires, or distributor cap?

Losing power when it rains

If only when it rains, you are looking at an insulation or wiring issue.
Check the heavy battery wires for any signs of splitting or poor connections. Also check the engine to body earth strap.

2003 honda civic cuts out when wet weather or car wash

Could be two different problems.
The ignition system could be shorting out and shut the engine off when wet, and the serpentine belt could be slipping when wet which would cause the alternator not to charge.
The battery light should come on if the engine dies.

Voltage light

This is most likely happening due to water splashing up onto your serpentine belt causing it to slip and not spin the alternator fast enough.

A possible reason as to why this occurs not and not before could be a worn belt.

Having this happen won't really hurt anything, just dont rev the engine during the drying process as you might throw the belt off.

2004 Ford Explorer V8 died after going through puddle, no reset

Pull the snorkel off of the throttle body. If there water and/or oil in the tube and/or throttle body, you destroyed the engine. Water is not compressable, so if it get's into engine, parts like piston rods bend, engine seizes. Lets hope you got a module wet or something, because this isn't covered under warranty. If you're all clean and dry in the snorkel, wait for the summer heat to dry the car up and try again, if you get nothing you will have to take somewhere to be tested, too many variable to try to answer without testing.

1993 Plymouth Voyager 3.3 many different warning lights came on

Sure sounds like alternator, or belt, or maybe just fuse for charging circuit. Get battery re-charged, make sure belt to alternator is tight, and if you have access to multimeter (voltmeter) attach it to battery for reading when it starts. Note voltage when not running, before you start it, and then start & watch meter. Voltage should increase when running. Be aware, it would not be uncommon for belt to come right off on those vehicles, especially when a deep puddle is hit. Confirm it's even there & on properly before you get too carried away.

2000 Volkswagen Polo runs rough and dies in wet weather and rain

Girlfriend's 99 Polo had same issue. In fact it recurred yesterday! Anyway, am not expert, but it seems to be due to deposits building up inside distributor cap area and then getting damp in wet conditions, causing shorting of ignition 'signals'. Found solution is to clean inside cap every 6 to 12 months with a cloth and IPA (or water if you're stuck - just make sure to dry it properly!) and the problem goes away. Silly thing about her Polo is that there's no decent splashguard to protect the engine area from splashes from puddles etc. I've lost all respect for VW coz of the amount of silly things that have gone wrong with her car...! Hope this helps - sounds to me like it's exactly the same problem.
