Evap code p0455 on 2003 ford focus zts

Got check gas cap light so I did every thing seemed ok then check engine light came on. After about 2 days they both just went away. then they came back about 2 or 3 days later. now just the check engine light came on before this autozone checked the code and got P0455. the light is still on and starting to mess with me. I checked a bunch of vacume lines around the engine and they all seemed ok. Is there a weak link in this system I can fix or replace or is this one of those "it could be anything" kind of deals?

I already knew that. What I am looking for is there a history of a particular component in the evap system that is a weak link that I can test or replace first instead of throwing parts and money at it until I luck out or run out of money.

Yes on my 1999 Ford Explorer I also get evap code p0455. Had the smoke test done and nothing was wrong, but light is still on.

My gas cap was missing. If yours is there and tight, I'd replace it first. Simple things first.

Replace the fuel filter & check nhtsa's web site to see if your car had a fdm (fuel pump) safety campaign (if it did, you get a free fuel pump installed at your dealer).

Gas cap light evap code

What vehicle is it? (year, make, model, engine?) There are a lot of vacuum lines associated with the evap system on most vehicles. It could be as simple as a vacuum line cracked, broken or disconnected.

What does the code po456 mean?

Usually this P0456 code is caused by an incorrect or faulty gas cap. Filling the fuel tank with the engine running could conceivable cause this code as well or if the cap wasn't properly tightened. Any of the following could also be the cause:

* A small leak in any of the EVAP hoses or fuel tank hoses
* A small leak in the purge valve or vent valve
* The EVAP Canister may be leaking

Just like any time you get a check light on your dash

Check for codes & have a shop diagnose the system
with a fault, don't keep using it

Error code 340 & 457

  • P0340 - Camshaft position sensor circuit malfunction.
  • P0457 - Evaporative emission control system leak detected (fuel filler cap loose/off)

There is a bulletin #0398 posted on 05/12/2003 for P0457 - Malfunction indicator lamp (mil) illumination with diagnostic trouble codes p0442, p0455, p0456, p0457, p1442 or check fuel cap lamp illuminated with diagnostic trouble code p0457.

I'd suggest checking with your local dealer, as it may be a fix that is covered by the dealer.

Large evap leak for 2001 ford focus

Probably nothing.
The code means the gas tank can not be sealed to prevent vapors from escaping.
Common causes are a missing gas cap when the engine is running, or a faulty hose from the tank to the vapor canister.

Evap control system

if you have a dash chck engine light,if the codes suggest its a evap problem, either you gas cap is bad (not air tight) or there is a seal where your fuel pump goes into your gas tank is bad,if you've recently had a fuel pump installed it is 99% sure the seal is your problem

An error code of 0457 came up. any idea what that is?

P0457 FORD - EVAP Control System Leak Detected (Fuel Filler Cap Loose/Off)
EVAP control system has a very large leak such as fuel filler cap fell off, EVAP control system does not operate properly.

Vehicles that meet enhanced evaporative requirements utilize a vacuum-based evaporative system integrity check. The evap system integrity check uses a Fuel Tank Pressure Transducer (FTPT), a Canister Vent Solenoid (CVS) and Fuel Level Input (FLI) along with the Vapor Management Valve (VMV) or Electric Vapor Management Valve (EVMV) to find 0.040" diameter or larger evap system leaks. Federal vehicles can utilize a 0.040" leak check rather than the 0.020" leak check required for California vehicles (click over pic for zoom).

Symptoms:
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Possible a noticeable fuel odor caused by the release of fuel vapors

Possible causes:
- Missing fuel filler cap
- Incorrect fuel filler cap used
- Fuel filler cap remains open or fails to close
- Foreign matter caught in fuel filler cap

Possible solution:
- Retight or replaced fuel tank filler cap

Tech notes:
It is a very common problem with Ford vehicles. There are service bulletins for the following vehciles:
1997-2000 Ford CONTOUR
1997-2002 Ford ESCORT
1997-2003 Ford CROWN VICTORIA, MUSTANG, TAURUS

CHECK GAS CAP / ENGINE SERVICE ARE ON

Most likely an evap system fault code stored in engine computer. Best bet and cheapest thing is go to the dealer and buy a new cap. Install the cap and drive the car for a few days if the light goes off, your all set, if not you need to check for codes. Then probably find a leak or a faulty evap vent valve or purge valve.

Ford Focus Engine Light

Start by getting either a mechanic or someone with an OBDII scanner to read the code so you know where to start. Lots of time a loose gas cap will cause a "Evap system small leak" code which illuminates the check engine light for a while. Other than that I can't help you much without knowing what code comes up.
