If so how do I find the right wire to hook it to?

  • thesaint8nt Jun 23, 2008

I think you missed my comment on how do I find the right wire to hook to.

  • thesaint8nt Jun 23, 2008

The advice is insufficeent. I need my comment paid attention to. That is the eighth answer telling me it is easy, but no one tells me how to find the wire I need to tie into.

  • thesaint8nt Jun 23, 2008

I already have everything hooked up except the horn button. I don't know which wire comming from the steering column is the horn wire I need to hook to. I have the wire running out of my air horn relay that is supposed to go to the horn button, but instead of buying an extra horn button I want to hook it up to the OEM horn system. Thanks.

You can check this website for some full color wiring diagrams and I think they will have the one you are looking for. Once you have the diagram and it tells you what color the wire is from the steering colomn you need, you can then find the correct wire with some real certainty.

Hi,
You need the switched live from your ignition, to control the pump and valve assembly on the air horn system. This wil lensure the system is primed the moment the engine is started.

You then use the OEM horn feed wire that is connected to the old horn itself, to go to the solenoid valve on the airhorn, the other side of the valve needs to be going to ground - anywhere -ve on the chassis.

Hope this solves the problem for you.

You can use the switch but you still need to wire the pump and what not.

cause youd have to wire up the air pump and the tank. You should just have a regular horn, right now.

you could tell me the style of air system and type of air horn and i could help you. But if you cannot provide any details beyond you have a 2000 dodge ram and need the right wire to hook something to. We will not be able to assist your accurately. should be 5 wires if you get the right system. One that allows it to be wired in to the oem system. if you have a simple 3 wire canister horn you most likely will have to use the switch it comes with.

Un plug horn connect horn to another 12 volt power source, if it works then the problem is the horn button located in the steering wheel assembley

Our horn doesn't work on our '98 dodge grand caravan. can we fix ourselves? what are cost estimates to fix?

If you have a 12 volt test light you can pull the wire off the horn and hook one end of the test light to ground and the other to the wire for the horn then have someone press the horn button down if the light comes on then the wireing system is ok and it's the horn froze up, if it does not come on try replaceing the horn relay with a relay that is the same I believe the head light and AC relay are the same so try switching and see if the light comes on, if not and you have checked the fuse for the horn then it may be in the steering wheel where the problem is. You can test the horn by applying a wire to the positive side of the battery and touching it to the horn spade connector, if it beeps then you know it's ok and you have a problem in the steering wheel. I will stop at this point because working on the steering wheel can be dangrous unless you unplug the battery first, the reason is you could set off the air bag by accident and this would take another page of instructions to do it safely, if the air bag blows it can kill you. Hope this helps and get back to me if these test prove that the horn is good and you need to check the steering wheel assembly. Thanks for using fixya.

How do i install a 12 volt air horn to my 2ooo Celica GTS

Finding the room to mount it is the hardest part depending on the type you buy. You will need to test fit it into a few different positions until you find the right spot. Best not to point them into areas they will get wet or too much air pushing into them. They can be mounted in pretty much any direction.

The easier way is if you eliminate your original horn, and hook the 12 Volt power supply from the original horn, to the Air pump that will come with your horns, or that is attached to the horn. If you have to extend the connecting wire, make sure you have a secure connection at both ends

To have both horns, you'll need to install a special switch from the interior to a Heavy Duty 12 Volt relay in the engine compartment that you install, the relay will need to have amperage high enough to match the horns requirements, then connect it through a "Fused" circuit from the battery.

They usually put those instructions on the package.
.

That's it. You press the horn switch, it energizes the pump & instantly provides an air horn sound.

good luck

The horn for the alarm is located beside the wiper motor assembly. You'll need to remove the wiper arm assy so you can remove the cowl panel and access the electric horn.

My horn stopped working and the fuse is ok i need to know were to look now

It might be the switch in the steering wheel, to find out for sure, take a piece of wire long enough to reach the horn from the battery,
hook one end to the positive terminal of battery, touch the wire connection at the horn with the other end, if it blows, the switch in the steering wheel is bad. ( be careful not to touch any metal parts with the wire, you will get sparks).
