What does the numeric prefix mean for wire color in a factory service manual? eg: 5 red or .8 wht

It's telling you that the red wire is number 5 wire on the wiring diagram or the number 8 wire in the harness is white.

Picture of glow plugs locations

Glow plugs are right below the injectors and have a wire harness attached to them it's a black tube looking thing with 4 offshoots going into the head right below the injectors. the harness just pulls right off and the plugs are right under. The glow plugs are threaded into the head. it is very common for the harness to fail and there is lots of options to purchase replacements there are 2 and 4 wire harnesses so make sure you get the right one if you need to replace the harness. sorry no pic. lots of info with pics at fredstdipage. (just google it!)

Where can i find a new alternator wiring harness or (diagram to make one) for a 1985 mercury cougar that has a 5.0 engine. The local area parts/salvage dealers do not have this part.

My software won't let me link the diagram to the internet. So I will describe it to you. I'll use factory
color codes, so if you have any harness left you can
splice to it. On the regulator there's 4 terminals one
ot them is (A) from this a yell/wht wire that go's to a
fusable link then to the + battery side of the solenoid.
The (F) orng/ltblue wire go's to the field terminal on
the alternator.The S or stator wire (wht/blk) go's to
the Stator term on the alt. The I or ign. wire (ltgrn/wht)
go's to the alternator light. (or gauge) Next the B or
battery connection wire (blk/orng) from the alternator
go's to the fusable link, the same one that the yell/wht (A) wire went. Also there is a wht/blk wire
that runs from the stator term. on the alt. to the
choke heater. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Need help with 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe Audio Wiring

Sounds like you need a light tester. I would guess that at least 8 of the wires are speaker + & - the others will be Main power and earth Possibly electric ariel, Memory store and a wire for the anti theft circuit. Assuming the stereo is factory. Any Audio shop can perform a test to clarify the purpose of the wires Wouldnt worry about the blank its probably a position for a newer or different model to yours.
