Question about 1983 Porsche 911

Driveability I have a 83 911 cabriolet non supercharged when you start it up it runs then idles down when warm ,but when you go out for a drive it stalls and the only way to get it started again is to take off air filter lift up on bellows plate and let it drop then it will restart again

Yes and the way it runs.
Disconnect and plug the vacuum lines to the EGR, and see if you still have idle and driveability issues. If not replace the Valve.

Try cleaning intake manifold with cleaner you can get from any auto suply store. just follow the insructions on the cleaner. Sometimes carbon builds up inside the manifold.

Could be the fast idle sensor check to see that the vacume line is hooked up properly.

Hello! I'm not sure if you have the supercharged, or non-supercharged version of the 3.8 liter V6 - so I've posted both for you.

1989 VW cabriolet, fuel odor, engine stalls in 1st and 2nd gear
Ignition system sounds probable on vhicle when everything gets warmed up. High pitched hum could be bad tire or worse bearing.

Car starts fine..Idle is fast...stalls after car warms up
Check for vacuum leaks. Also try cleaning the ISV.

Check for a vac. leak. First listen for a whistle or a high pitch sound if you have any fix them. You can get a can of carburetor cleaner and spray around the vac, hoses even the big one on the brake booster unit and the back of the master cly.

Fast idle
I have a similar problem which seems to stop ,if after 20 mins of driving or warmed up engine if you stop for 10 mins the revs die to a more normal 1500 revs! it is a spanish car now living in theUK I think the problem is choke related.

runs rough i have a 1983 911SC, starts instanly always, cold, for the first minute and a half, runs like a Porsche, a real rocket, then after that runs like it wouldn't beat a Ford Fiesta until it is totally warmed up and then it is still only good, not a rocket like at start up?
