I can only answer that, by saying ,between yourself and any
repair shop, looking at,inspecting, and working on the vehicle,
that thoses lines should have been wire tied or bent away, from
the rack,years ago.
You as the owner take the responsibility, to personnally examine
everything,once or twice a year.
Sort of, part of ongoing preventative maintainance.
Common,yes and no.

How do I find a leak in power steering I can't see it from the top.Within 20 minutes fluid is gone.Cant see any leak but puddle on ground.

Did you already checked on the steering rack?
Maybe you need to check from the bottom vehicle also. The leakage commonly occur at the hose joint and sometimes it occur at oil seal on steering rack.

Just bought last week have an oil leak in driveway the oil is light brown in color what could it be..

oil cooler lines, transmission pan, power steering leaking or axle seals. All are pretty common.

IF you open up the access cover for the oil filter you will see the cooler lines. If they are wet with oil you found the first leak.

The trans pan will be wet if the gasket is leaking

the front axle seal will be wet right where the axles go in the front end.

The power steering pump, lines, gear box will be wet if they are leaking.

Hello, i have a 1997 pontiac bonneville with 107000 miles. I would like to change the AT Fluid My Garage wants to do a Flush via the Oil cooler line and replace the Fluid. Is there a Filter in the Trans...

If the Trans is original, it is about ready for a rebuild

If you never changed the fluid every 30,000 miles,
since new, on all your vehicles, point made

Power Steering also-ever wonder why steering
racks fail,neglect,just like transmissions

Just remove the pan, change the filter, put
pan back,add fluid,done

No flushing,won't even go there

I used to own a trans shop, enough said

2000 Grand Caravan. leaking power steering fluid a qt per day. Is this the rack leaking or would it be a line? What about the gaskets on the rack. Is this something I can do on my own.

The rack can leak i've done a few but is not common, the most common is the return line which is used as a cooler line also, this line is under the van the best thing to do is to clean oil leak and dry then start and watch for the leak inorder to pinpoint, hope this helps.

1994 Beretta: When I turn my car something sounds like it is rub...

1) Have you snapped the pulley belt, the power steering pump is powered by this? 2) check the track rod arms and where they enter of the steering rack. Sometimes the bearing that keeps the rack central breaks and the rack then rubs the outer tube causing a dragging noise and heavy steering

If power steering pump is replaced, is it possible to damage the steering rack during the replacement of the pump?

NO. The rack usually fails because no one changes P/S Fluid every two years or so. Now if a new rack is installed and you don't flush the cooler and install a filter in the return line, you loose the new rack again from contamination from the first rack. That's a common poor work practice, even though every rack comes with a tag and instructions warning of this.
