Question about 2004 Jaguar X-Type

Head lights, 04 X-Type Jaguar

I purchased this black beauty resently, noticed the front headlights do not come on. Bought new bulbs, but I can't get my hands in the tight area. How can I change these? Is there a tool or some trades trick to getting the old bulb out? As you may know, mechanic work isn't nor has never been my strong suit. I love this sporty little Jag but already the lights are out, what next?

Changing the bulbs is a bit tricky. There are a couple of clips that need to be opened, and it is tough to do when your hands barely fit in there. After about an hour of practice, I was able to do it in a few minutes. Now that the bulb is changed, it still doesn't work. Also, I think I touched a wire to ground, and my headlight automatic "sensor" setting doesn't work anymore, so I have to turn my lights on and off by hand. Did I blow a fuse? If so, where is it?

How do you replace the headlights on an X-type Jaguar. I got the cover off from inside the hood, disconnected the wire but for the life of me I could not remove the burnt our bulb. Any suggestions?

access is a major problem. I gave in!

Halfords wont attempt to change the bulbs on these models.

Jag dealer wanted £46 to fit 2 bulbs with me supplying them!

I am having the same problem. Got the cover off of the the back of the headlight assembly; however the wires connect to a tennis ball side "orb" that rest in the assembly? Does the bulb fit in this "orb", and if so how do you get it out. Any help would be sincerely appreciated

MY PROB:
I have a 2002 Jaguar S-Type (4.0) that I'm upgrading to Xenon HIDS and can't figure out how to get the entire assembly out of the car WITHOUT removing the front bumber, any suggetions.

BULB SOLUTION: As for the bulb replacement, unsrew the cap on the back of the headlight, disconnect the wire harness attached to the bulb. There is a little meatal clip (ROYAL PAIN IN THE A$$) that needs to be unhooked to released the buld. I would suggest using your GF/WIFE or child for this as you'll need small hands and figers to pull this off. When you figure out the one, the other will be a cake walk! I just did this yesterday on my S-type to add the simulated HID bulbs, but they're still not bright enough for me!

Good luck and let me know if there's a trick to help me out with my bumper prob!

HEADLIGHTS NOT WORKING

I have a 2002 x-type jaguar,i need to replace the front lights that are burn out.do i need to take the hole front bumper off? how?

Inspect/Replace-I don't think that removing the bumper is necessary. There can be slight variations in procedure from one model to another when replacing headlights. For instance, on some models the turn signal light assembly must be removed before the headlight can be replaced. Overall, however, the procedure does not differ much from the following typical instructions.
Make sure the replacement bulb is the same type and part number as the one that is being replaced.
f19-22.jpg Comparing the old and ther replacement headlamps. To Replace:
  • Remove the headlight bezel retaining screws. Remove the bezel. If necessary, disconnect the turn signal lamp wires.
  • Remove the retaining ring screws from one or both lights.
  • Remove the retaining rings.
  • Remove the light from the housing. Disconnect the wiring connector from the back of the light.
  • Push the wiring connector onto the prongs at the rear of the new light.
  • Place the new light in the headlight housing. Position it so the embossed number in the light lens is on the top.
  • Place the retaining ring over the light and install the retaining ring screws. Tighten them slightly.
  • Check the aim of the headlight and adjust it, if necessary.
  • Install the headlight bezel. Secure it with the retaining screws.
  • Connect the turn signal lamp wiring (if it was disconnected).

Replacement of front headlight on 2002 X-type Jaguar

For the headlight you need to push the
backplate retaining clip away from you towards the wing with
something like a long screwdriver. However, before you do this
loop some electrical wire through it and back towards you so that
you will have a good purchase on it to pull the retaining clip back
into place after. Also, when removing the bulb, take note of where
the flat part of it is (you'll know what I mean by looking at your
new bulbs). This will assist you in placing the new bulb into the
correct position. Then a little bit of extra dexterity is required
be holding the new bulb in place (pressing on the spade connector)
and bringing the small bulb retaining clip over to hold the bulb in
place - a bit fiddly but all with one hand as you can't get two in.
Good luck.

How to change the bulb on the front head light on my 2002 jaguar x-type

Dip beam (outer) headlight
Open the bonnet.
Slide open the two spring clips (A) and remove the cover (B).
Press the spring clip inwards and push towards the bulb
to release the bulb and then remove the bulb from the light
unit. Pull the connector from the bulb.
Fit a new bulb to the connector, type H1 for dipped beam.
Fit the bulb to the light unit, the bulb will only correctly fit in
one position. Engage the spring clips to retain the bulb and then
fit the cover and retain using the two spring clips.
Close the bonnet.
Note: High Intensity Discharge (HID) Xenon light units,
type D2S 35W, are not renewable, contact your Dealer if the headligh fails to operate

How do you get the headlight bulb out to change on the 2001

outer/inner bulb, remove top black plastic cover that runs the lenth of the front of the car behind lights, turn the circular cover covering bulb anti-clockwise and remove, you will see a spring clip, push this clip towards the bulb and downwards, this will release the bulb, fitting is the reverse and the bulb will only fit in one position. It is awkward and space is tight

sounds like a lot for labour charge, but yes its a big job to remove the headlight unit ,its about a 20min job to remove then time in finding fault and then refitting it.Also on the garages side you are paying for all the time in college as well.as one solicitor said to me once you dont pay for what i do but for what i know ????.But look on the bright side its a JAG which means no smoking in it ,polish it every sunday and every second week rub the leather seats in with cream.also find a partner who is a mechanic to look after it for you
