Steering fluid running out fast out of my 1989 Ford Fairmont ea sedan auto

Always having to top up the fluid every 4-5 days, leaks out onto the concrete, had steering rack replaced 6 months ago, have old steering rack, where a mechanic says he has to spray clean the area and use a compressor to find out where it is leaking from. Dont know if I should use the same mechanic as he made me pay $350 for the last steering rack replacement. But dont know what it could be? What do you think I should do?

Will try it tomorrow and let you know what the outcomes is, are you meaning the steering rack hoses? take one out and then tighten it, then take the other end out and tighten it? Hope to hear from you again, sorry thanks.

I had the High pressure and Low pressure hoses replaced, everytime the mechanic was replacing the steering rack he was not replacing the pressure hoses and it was costing me a packet each time so I had to get the work on it warrantied for at least one year and provided a reconditioned new rubbers etc steering rack as well, so it was the hoses, I got them to change the steering rack as I didnt trust my instincts with the mechanics choice of second hand one, my one I brought second hand was in better condition didnt need the rubbers replaced was clean looking as well, Thank you for your advice it did solve it.

Problem solved the Speed sensor attached to the Steering rack has been disconnected since 2nd change in a row recently done. The cruise control on the steering wheel of the ea if pressed and set wrong can blow your speed sensors then causing a replacement of my steering racks, never knew problem till after 5th change. Thanks for your help though, farnortherna

Yes, Check the end of each hose for damage, it must be smooth in order to create a seal. Good Luck.

Tighten all hoses, one in and one out on steering box, and one in one out at the other end.

bad seal/ bearing on the power steering pump or p/s gearbox. could also be a bad hose or resevoir.

I have fluid leaking and makes noise during turns

sounds like the water pump is leaking onto the drive belt for the steering pump, have the water pump tested for a leaking front shaft..

Power steering leak/Squealing car

Sounds like you bought the wrong hose. also check the o-rings & be sure to use new ones when replacing the hose. Be sure you have it in right & not cross threaded. If it's cross threaded, you got a major problem. First it will always leak, second you probably ruined the pump or rack where it screws in. If it's engine oil, then buy a dye from the auto parts store of choice & have it checked by a shop with an ultra violet light.
