Question about 1996 Land Rover Discovery

1 Answer

Engine no start

Bought a used Landrover Discovery, 1996 model 2 months ago from Japan. Two days earlier the engine started okay. Its not starting now. Charged the battery, cleaned spark plugs and air filter. Could not get to the fuel filter because don't know where located in the vehicle. Please assist with advise on likely cause of this problem and what should be done to fix it.

Thanks

i have a 96 disco se 7 that was purchased when it was 10 and had under 100,000 miles.it ran great for the first couple of years then the crank positioning sensor went bad. it sat for 3 months before it was fixed. now the check engine light stays on and it will only run for less than thirty miles then won't start for at least an hour. since the cps has been changed the entire electrical system seems to be going bad from the alarm to the wipers to the radio, every electrical system is getting worse and now the fuel pump isn't coming on either and the truck will not start at all

I have a Mazda MPV 2003, i bought from japan, 7 months ago, this van was running well until two days ago, it stsrts and cut off, starts again and while driving it is losing power then it will speed up

Before any diagnostics, I would run a tank of gas with a bottle of fuel dryer and injector cleaner to ensure that the engine racing isn't resulting from moisture and clogged injectors.

Don't run premium fuel (lights harder) Light weight oil like 5- 20 synthetic helps some, however,an engine heater would be best, simple to install, keeps everything warm, heater gets hot in seconds, engine life is prolonged.

  • Neutral safety switch sends a signal to the on-board computer to allow the engine to start and to engage the transmission
  • When not replaced, vehicle may experience no start and/or transmission will not shift out of park. Here's a link to the part.

98 landrover discovery will not start. It just spins

does it have fuel pressure? to find this out get a can of spray starter fluid from a auto parts store, spray it into the engine air intake, if the engine starts you most likely need to replace the fuel pump which is located in the fuel tank.

You must give more information. Does the engine turn over , do you have enough/or correct fuel (petrol instead of diesel) etc

1996 discovery starting problem

Hi.

Make sure there is voltage going to the fuel solenoid on the pump, i did the same with my landrover and it just would not start or would start and just cut out, turned out to be the wire going to the fuel solenoid was not working, just re-wired from a wire behind the dash board that supplied enough voltage, that when the landrover had started the wire then supplying voltage.

Just check by putting a multimeter on the fuel solenoid wire and turn the engine over if the voltage drops to below 12v then it`s most likely the same problem i had.
