Cannot find where to plug 16 pin diagnostic controller

graham, the only 99 civic engine available in the US is the 1.6 L, so this might not help u, but the 1,6 is the traditional location : driver side, under dash, driver side of steering column, behind lower dash panel. To make things interesting, isn't your steering on the right ? (ours is left). Guess u have to check both sides? Let me know if this is any help, if not , I'll try again!

The spark plugs are numbered starting on the drivers side (1) to the passenger side (4), the distributor rotates clockwise, and the firing order is 1 - 3 - 4 - 2

My distributor

all you have to do is call parts dept at any dealership or even autozone and they will cheerfully tell you. if you are too shy to call, try looking up the part on autozone and seeing if they are the same part number. my knee **** reaction is that it probably wont as the engines changed in 1997 but i could be dead wrong. so just make one phone call and your troubles will melt away. good luck
