Had same problem -- seemed to be worst in warm weather. Began as a 30 to 45 minutes wait before it resolved itself, ended up taking several hours before starting again! Diagnostics at the dealer are no use if the car won't start. When it DOES start, diagnostics finds nothing wrong. Only solution is to get an auto electrician on the case when it's playing up.

I eventually found that the starter motor power feed cable was burning through as the starter needed to be reconditioned. That improved the situation but still didn't entirely solve the problem. Recently had a relay fitted to ensure the starter motor gets full 12V. Can't guarantee that's the solution, but it's started every time since then.

BMW engine is aluminum engine. Watch out , don’t let the engine over heated too much.

According to your explanation, sounds like your engine is over heated, I like to know , how hot the engine was when your BMW stalled and you have to wait around 45 minutes, after you started your car again and how long can you drive and get it hot again.

Any aluminum engine, we must watch out very carefully, sometimes just one time over heat, the engine will be damaged very badly, as soon as you have over heat problems, you have to check the following items.

Hose, water pump, fan belt connect to water pump, thermostat, coolant level, oil level, electric cooling fan should work normal, Check your radiator circulation, timing etc.

Check the coolant in the radiator see if there is oil,
Check the oil cap and oil stake see if there is white steam, if you see something like what I mentioned, that possibly your engine has blew up the head gasket or the engine cracked already, hope not, but you have to watch out and check it right away.
Sometimes during the summer time, if you feel your car is hot or you smell burning coolant and do not keep driving, maybe only driving several blocks or several miles, you are going to completely damage your engine.
From my Union 76 Service Station long time experience, I had so many cases about the aluminum engine damaged by over heat even my own BMW 530i.

Please check your car as soon as possible. Good luck.

replace the solenoid, but,if you are worried about being stranded, while you are there, replace the starter and on all connections, use electrical grease,to keep corrosion away, always use lock washers so nothing gets loose too.

How to reset security in 97 Buick century

What do you mean by reset? If the car will not start and the security light is on , there if a defect in the system..You can temporary overide it once or twice , but the problem will return. Turn car to on, (do not start), leave on for about 20 min. Turn car off , then on then to start.. Vehicle should start.. You have a defect in the keyway and it will have to be replace if this is your problem...gm 96 and 97 are notorious for this problem especially has the approach the 10 year mark.

Why do I have Intermittant power steering failiure on my vehicle?

If the car is cold while this happens and you have a rack and pinion steering the seals are bad.
You can try some Lucas brand power steering additive for that available at auto parts stores..

Hi I own A 98 Chevy Malibu, my ignition locked n i had to put a new ignition switch in, well now my cars tellin me Something Theft Service. Im wonder what I need to do? Iv unhooked battery for hours ect...

You need to reset the theft system. To do this, try to start it. It should start and die. Then after it dies and the theft light is flashing, leave the key on for 10 minutes. After 10 min, the theft light should go out. After the theft light goes out, turn off the key. Count to 5, then restart it. Then it should work.

Flat battery caused immobiliser problems

1-insert and remove key from ignition two times

2-close and open driver door two times

3-insert and remove key once from ign.

4-close and open drvr door twice

5-insert key into ign.,then close driver door

6-turn key to on (not start) then off, twice this is rewrite mode, have all remotes to reprogram it will clear any lost remotes.

7-remove key from ignition, the door locks should cycle twice.if not start over.it may take a few tries.

8-press lock/unlock together and hold for a second

9-release,and press lock on remote, the door locks will cycle confirming program.continue to do other remotes you have, steps 8 and 9.if only one in possession, you are done. To end mode open door or insert key into ignition.

You'll need to follow the steps with no more than a 1-2 second delay between each step.. hope it works

1998 Volvo S70 stalls intermittently

Have tried getting quality gasoline at a reliable station? It sounds like water in your fuel system. Add a couple bottles of Iso-Heet fuel system dryer everytime you fill up the next few times, and that should cure it.
