Question about 2000 Ford Windstar

Blowing Fuse My 2000 Windstar is blowing the fuse that controls the air conditioner and mileage on the dash board. First time it blew was 2 weeks ago, we replaced the fuse and it blew again immediately. We upgraded the fuse and it worked for two weeks. Now that fuse has blown along with smoke coming from near the fuse panel box. We aren't putting in any more fuses until we take it to the shop.

My husband and I have had the same exact problem with our fuses in the 2000 Ford Windstar. The first instance was the speedometer and the milage. And then he replace the fuses and they would blow as soon as he put them in. This weekend he decied to go up on the amp and it work for 2 days and then my entire dash went dead. Now we have no power in the windows, the radio, all of the dash is dark including the signal lights. I have an appointment with the local guy at the auto repair shop and I am hoping it wont cost to much.

OMG! I have the same issues with mine but just add rust to the body of the van too. My A/C only works when it feels like it, my speedometer goes wacky and my cruise doesn't work, now my seat fuse(power seat on drivers side) is broke, we think it is just the fuse but need a idea of the layout of the fuses to see which one to replace. It seems like I have one electrical problem after another and I did buy an extended warranty but it although it was the top of the line from Gaurdian, it doesn't cover many of the issues, I also bought a $700 electronic rust proof system which they won't honor b/c the company said that it is an issue with Fords and some of their cars made in the late 90's and early 2000's were rusting excessively and Ford is "biting the bullet" reps. exact words. Therefore they won't cover it either. If anyone knows about the fuses on these 2000 windstars let me know, Thanks!

There are a few possibilities here. First, you may have high starting amps on the compressor. You mentioned the run capacitor being changed. I'm not sure if you have a start capacitor, but that should also be checked. If you don't have a start capacitor, I would recommend having a hard start kit installed in the unit. It's basically a start capacitor with an internal relay to take it out of the circuit when the compressor is running, and wires up in parallel to the run capacitor. Also, check all of your line voltage wiring. Make sure all the wiring connections are tight (wire nuts, screw terminals, etc.), and that there's no issue with wiring insulation rubbing off from vibration, etc. Finally, check the points on the compressor contactor. If the contacts are black and pitting, it causes arcing, which means excessive amp draw through the contactor.

you may have a short of some kind, when a fuse blows repeatedly it is no good just replacing, you are being told that something is wrong with the equipment.
You will almost certainly have to visit a technician for a diagnosis. It is unlikely to be something that an inexperienced end user can sort out I am afraid.

GOOD LUCK

My 2000 dodge caravan blower fuse keeps blowing

Most common problem would be the blower fan motor, which has"worn out" and has a short in it. Small maybe is the wiring to the motor, has a short from being pinched or worn in some spot. e-bay might have parts to help you. Remember, used parts can fail anytime.

I have a 1994 Ford Thunderbird LX V8. A few months ago when I put the car in park, the air conditioner and the battery amp guage quit working. I found a fuse that was bad and I replaced it and then the...

I'm betting it has something to do with the shift lock actuator or the harness to the actuator. I'm pretty sure it is located on the top of the steering column on your vehicle. The lower part of the dash will need to be removed and then the steering column lowered in order to gain access to it.

This vehicle does have an airbag and unless you experience with airbag systems I would not recommend tackling this yourself.

unplug the interlock. Replace the fuse. Start the vehicle. with your foot on the brake manually release the interlock with you hand and shift through the gears. If the fuse does not blow your on the right track. If the fuse does blow let me know and I'll get you some more info.

Speedometer, odometer, a/c clutch and ABS light on

Its a faulty switch/sensor on your brakes master cylinder. The switch leaks brake fluid into the wires connected to it causing a short in the circuit and blowing the fuse that controls the ABS, odometer, speedometer and cruise control. This problem can also cause a fire. A fire can occur even when the car is off. Go to this link to find out how to fix the problem. - http://www.fordwindstarrecall.info/

2003 COROLLA S AIR CONDITIONER BLOWS HOT AIR.5 DAYS AGO MECHANIC "CLEANED LINES AND PUT IN FREON" FOR $135.00. STILL BLOWING HOT AIR.

If it blew cold air after freon added and 5 days later blew warm, you may have a leak in the system. Also check and see if compressor comes on if not you may have an electrical issue, relay for compressor, coil on compressor, etc.......

Just started to happen. air conditioner, defrost, heater not blowing any air at any setting on 1998 ford explorer. my stereo was stolen a week ago. my husband pushed the wires back into the dash board....

There's a fan speed control module mounted on the firewall in the engine compartment. It probably needs to be replaced assuming you've checked the fuses and are certain a fuse isn't blown as a result of pushing the wiring back into the dash.

Radio/ingnition power outlet not working

Hi Cyndi... Yes, you are most likely right about a simple fuse blowing out. Many different functions are typically driven off of one fuse. The fact you have more than one electrical device not working indicates you should indeed check all of your fuses. There is an "electrical center" located under the hood, next to the battery as well as a small assortment of fuses under the dash. All of these should be checked, as you cannot be absolutely sure which components are being shared by any particular fuse. Sometimes it's straightforward and sometimes it not, so please check them all.
