Replacing dash lights on mercury mariner

dealers and their desperation to get in your pockets lol. seriously as simple as changing a light bulb from a lamp. start with taking the plastic housing off of your steering column, then the dash starts co come apart use a plastic putty knife where it is held on by clips so to not scar up your dash. a few screws here and there and your indicator panel is visible and accessible. although you could save yourself a lot of trouble if you can access your instrument panel from underneath the dash.

Extend dash lights bulb life.

If you are like me, burned out dash lights drive me nuts. Removing a dash from a modern car to get to them takes time and patience. Tip 1: once you do that replace all the bulbs to keep from having to do this again in the near future. Tip 2: Instead of burning your dash lights full intensity, use the dimmer switch for a lower setting. Less voltage to those bulbs will greatly extend their life. Hopefully all your dash lights are working, and this tip will save you money, time, and aggravation!

The dash lights are not on. is this a fuse problem?

Go to and register your vehicle by VIN #.. you'll then have access to wiring diagrams, shop manuals, service bulletins, campaigns, illustrations and procedures, etc.
Dash lights (illuminations) are 4 bulbs inside the cluster and controlled by the rheostat (intensity acjustment switch/wheel). The other Dash Lights (Check Engine, Airbag, Battery, Brake, etc.) are controlled by different microcomputers/modules. If you are only referring to 'illuminations' (4 bulbs), the issue might simply be the bulbs are burned out or the connection to them (connector(s) in back of the cluster may be oxidized/loose.

Dash lights have burned out

If all of the lights are out, check your fuses and/or instrument dimmer switch. If you have only 1 or 2 lights out, you will need to remove the instrument cluster to be able to access the bulb sockets on the back. The sockets generally come out with a 1/4 turn counter clockwise and the bulbs just plug into the sockets.

The service engine soon indicator light is burned out on my 1998 Ford Windstar. There are no codes, it passed inspection for everything but the bulb. The owner's manual doesn't give info on bulb...

The bulb replacement is quite simple - at least once you've disassembled the dash and have the instrument cluster in hand and can access the bulb in the back.

Most likely yes. most dash components just snap togethernow. be gentle. call the dealer for the bulbs. unlikely they are all burned out. If none work look for a bad fuse and check the head light switch.

My signal light wont blink but it comes on, how do i change it or where to start to fix the problem

My first thought: burned out bulb.
With the car in "run" position(doesnt need to be running) and parked, switch on the blinker and get out and look to see which light is on, and which is not.
If somehow both blinker lights come on, then your issue is with a burned out blinker relay which is typically found up, under, the dash. These things are about 1-1/4 inches in diameter and about a 1-1/4 inches tall and will usually be found in or near the fuse panels.

If it's a bulb thats fried....
front end - check under the hood to see if blinker bulbs are accessible from there. If not from inside, you'll hafta remove the light covers/housings from the outside, usually requiring a philips or torx screwdriver of some sort.
back end - these are likely accessible from the trunk, and hidden behind the carpeting, or something, that covers the rear light areas. If not directly accessible, then you'll hafta determine how to remove the bulb covers/housing to get at the dead bulb.

My check engine light DOES NOT come on when i turn my key foward like the other lights! its 01 blazer, 4.3 .....where is the light located, i think the bulb is burnt out! I have bad hesitation when i stomp...

The light is located next to the gate adjar light in the upper left area of the cluster. It at the 2500 rpm mark on the tachometer.
I would take the vehicle to your local Auto Zone and ask them to scan your car for trouble codes. The will scan the car for you at no charge. Write the codes down and respond back.

Replacing dash lights

You may be able to reach the bulbs from the back of the instrument panel, you will need to remove any lower panels that block access, if they can't be removed from the back then you will have to R&R the instrument cluster assy and any other unit that has defective bulbs, make sure you get the correct repacement bulbs, they may look the same but have diffwerent luminosity ratings, wrong bulb will be to dim or to bright and hot burning, this can damage the bulb socket, check your owners manual for more info.
