Did you happen to leave the windows down during the serious mist? If so, Nothing inside the car has weather pack seals on the plugs. So it could be practically any thing on the inside. I would look at the ignition plugs, fuse/relay panel plugs, and BCM plugs. Look for corrosion. White to a greenish color.
Is the mist in the engine bay or in the inside of the car? It could be an exhaust leak, power sterring fluid leak, antifreeze leak, oil leak, fuel leak, or even an electrical problem. What does it smell like?
Its the heater core you smell it on the inside because the fan is blowing it into the vehicle antifreeze is unuswal stuff it forms a mist and becomes air borne even a small leak you will smell with the fan running look for wet spots on the carpet under the core but the mist may be so fine and you wonn;t feel it but this your problem
Misting? From under the hood or out of the vents? If it is out of the vents, that is normal when the humidity is very high. The air from the outside is full of moisture, when you cool it by passing it over the a'c coil, the excess moisture will appear as a fog briefly. If you put the control on recirculate, you use inside cabin air and that should stop the problem. All about relative humidity. Warmer air holds more moisture. For instance in the winter when the RH is maybe 30% outside at 30 degrees, you bring that air inside and warm it to 70, the RH drops significantly. Don;t have the formula off hand, but it whu you get the static electricity shocks in the colder weather.
