Question about 2001 Volvo S40
I have to pump the gas to start the car. It has plenty of zip, so I don't think it's the spark plugs. Someone suggested that it may be the fuel filter, but I cannot locate it, any suggestions?
Fuel filter is at right side of gas tank undernieth car
by pumping the gas all you are doing is opening the throttle plates alowing some air.its not uncomin for injection cars with higher mileage to need alittle more air for start up.
check ECT sensor.
clean throttle plates
is check engine light on?

I have the same prolem with 10-15sec start, have to keep the throttle in then crank engine to start. Found I dont have to keep the throttle in. Only need time cranking to start. My best way forward would be to replace the fuel pressure regulator. The vacuum pipe also came loose that cause misfiring and engine stalls. Apart from that the engine run perfect.
