Question about 2002 Audi A4

Mass airflow meter

I have a 2002 1.8t audi a4, whilst driving today the car suddenly lost power, nothing happened when i put foot down on accelerater, until i changed gear, when it picked up power again, looking through forums i have gathered that it could be a problem with mass airflow meter, however i can't find it under the bonnet at all, so i need to know where to find it so i can find part number to order.

Hi

It is fitted to the air filter outlet hose (the one which goes from the air filter to the turbo) and it is quite literally right next to the air filter. It has a wiring plug to it.

Regards

I have one doing the same, when i datalogged it whilst driving i found the ignition timing to be at approx 20 degrees after top dead centre when the car is sluggish and when it kicks into life it goes to approx 15-25 degrees before top dead centre, so it is definatly a timng issue, although mine does not have variable valve timing?? any ideas??

Try unplugging the Mass Airflow sensor and see if the car runs better, if it does replace the MAF sensor. It is located in the air intake hose to the engine.

You may need to change your thermostat or coolant temp sensor, If the sensor does not detect proper temp than this could cause ur problem.. A scan tool could help give u the readings.

Hi i have an audi a3 1.8t whilst driving the engine sudenly starts missing and spluttering if i change down a gear or take my foot off the throttle and then press it back down the problem usualy goes away...

Hi ,
These cars have various faults with the engine management systems, when you have eliminated all the basics such as spark plugs, air leaks ,vacumn leaks you need to plug into the car and read the live data from the engine while it is running,a good place to start is the pencill coils and the Mass air flow meter as these are more common and relatively cheap,do not use cheap import parts use OE it pays in the end.

No I am a mechanic at Audi. The problem is that the the air flow to the central tappets may be causing the air flow sensor to trip and that is why. Try putting a small amount of WD40 into the petrol and that will work, its a very common problem.
