Sputtering, chugging, black smoke - won't restart when hot

Was working fine, parked for 1 night, start next morning, sputtering, coughing, etc. Will start - run for maybe 5 minutes - then starts cutting out and dies. Will not restart again until cold. Plugs have been changed - yesterday - old ones covered in carbon - new ones in less than 1 day - again covered in carbon. Any suggestions?

We ended up changing the plugs and a sensor for the fuel mix - has been purring like a kitten since.

Check your tail pipe for a "clog" engine not breathing correctly.

2001 jeep Cherokee sport out of no where started sputtering and chugging, running rough and 10 mph was top speed go about 20 ft then die. Start up and same thing. Went about 1-2 miles like this.

to me, it sounds like fuel related problem.
Clogged fuel filter, bad (aged) fuel pump, or water in tank.

one thing I doubt is "Sputtering".
low fuel pressure don't do "Sputtering".

My car is sputtering and dying. If I try to restart it, it will immediately go into sputtering/dying mode. If I wait a while an hour or so it will start up and drive fine.

When was the last time that the carburetor was stripped and cleaned? Also have you checked the fuel filter? Finally, the problem seems to come and go as the engine is run (and it gets hot) check that the fuel line and any electrical cables are well away from the hot engine as far as is possible.

1999 honda accord seems like it isn't gettign a steady fuel supply, it keeps sputtering and almost dies but when I pump the gas pedal it revs back up. I just put a new O2 sensor in and it sounds l

First question is - is the check engine light on ?
If yes you should check it for codes next.
You may have to use a scanner to watch the O2 sensor to figure out if it is too lean or too rich. I would also check fuel pressure at the rail with a gauge to make sure pressure is normal. Could be a faulty fuel pressure regulator among other things.

1999 lincoln continental is sputtering

Is the check engine light on ?
If not, I would check the fuel pressure with a gauge next.
If a sensor has failed or something like the EGR valve is faulty you should get a check engine light and a trouble code.

Engine sputters in park and neutral but this problem disappears when the ac is running. Any thoughts?

Check for vacuum leaks. Fill a spray bottle with a few drops of d/w liquid and the rest with water. Start and run the engine. Spray around all vacuum lines and areas to where hoses may be going. If the engine r.p.m. increases, that's where your vacuum leak is. Stay away from electrical.
