I have a 1994 gmc sonoma ext. cab 4x4 with a 4.3 engine with the throttle body fuel system. The truck has 160,000 miles. I have owned it 14 years. A few years ago it developed excessive steering wheel freeplay. The local GMC dealer diagnosed it as needing a new steering gear. They replaced it for approx. $950. This did not correct the steering freeplay. The problem continued to get worse over the next few years. Recently I had new tires and alignment. This tire shop also found what is causing the steering problem. The intermediate steering shaft is worn out. This is GM part # 26039122. GM says it is no longer availble. Do you know of another source?

Check for vacumn leaks ! Idle air compensator? clean throttle valve oppenings and air port opening,do you have check engine lite on,check EGR valve? Dirty fuel injectors ,bad pressure regulator?Check fuel pressure at fuel rail,at idle !
I have two. A 91 s15 ext cab 5-speed 4x4, 4.3L with a flatbed and 89 s10 ext cab auto 4x4, 4.3L with a box. Make an offer around $500 and thier yours.lol
Check the fuel pressure at the shredder valve, you should have 62 to 65 PSI when the fuel system is primed. (engine not running) With the engine started and running the pressure should drop by 5 PSI, anything less then 62 PSI in your fuel system when trying to start the engine will cause a no start. Note; that try to start a the engine by pouring gas through the throttle body may cause an internal fire in the intake ports and will cause the fuel injectors to melt creating a more expensive problem. As for the fuel pump in the gas tank, it''s held on by and snap ring which you can remove with a simple screw driver. Good luck and keep me posted, and don't for get to replace the wire harness from the frame to the gas tank. It's a $12.00 investment that's worth more then it's cost.
Pull plug wire and install a philips screwdriver into the plug wire get it 1/4 inch away from a good ground and crank the engine over, is there spark? if so check that you have fuel pressure buy renting a fuel pressure test kit from schucks or auto zone and turn the Key to run positionwith thegage hooked up, it should read 50 PSI turn key off and wait 20 seconds should still have 20 PSI of fuel pressure, if no fuel pressure check fuel pump relay, then check fuse to pump. if you have a bad relay and are not getting fuel then check the oil pressure switch to see if you have oil pressure at the switch if no pressure then the oil pressure safety switch has died and needs to be replaced and should stark after replacing. If you have fuel then check the timing to see if you slipped timing belt.
Its the EGR valve. My personal solution was just to disconnect the vacuum line from the EGR solenoid. Take the breather off. Looking at the motor from the front of the truck, look to the left of the throttle body(injectors) and find a small electronic device with two vacuum lines attached to it. Take the vacuum line on the very back and unplug it.
