Hard to check resistance since the coil driver is built into the coil and not the computer like most

The Distributor Ignition (DI) system is controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

The Distributorless Ignition System (DIS) is controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

Testing The Ignition Coil

  1. Remove the ignition coil(s).
  2. Using an ohmmeter, check the resistance between the primary terminals on the underside of the coil. The resistance should be 0.50-0.90 ohms.
  3. Check the resistance between the secondary terminals. It should be 5000-10,000 ohms.
  4. If the coil failed either test, replace the coil.
If the coils(s) are good check the ignitions leads by measuring their resistance. (Multi Meter required.) If the coil(s) and leads are good

I don't have any power at the ignition coil on a 1987 wrangler, any place to start ? thanks

fuses are always first.
you said no power to the coil that means 12vdc power.
so hows car run with no power to coil no electric power?
ok, seems its , running good, then you lose engine power (not usage of word engine) then you find loss of 12vdc power to the ignition coil
you blew a fuse.
1987, carb engine
no engine stated, making any spark help near impossible
2.5L Vin H, TBI injection
4.2.L Vin C, 2bbl carb.
apples and oranges different (huge difference)

the 4.2 liter gets power from a ballast resistor.
on the yellow wire . the igntion switch feeds the this resistor
the green wire, goes to the ignition module.
this wire reads 12v key on, then when cranked, or running
the module grounds the green wire for about 5/1000s of second
and then release this ground making Inductive spark (Tesla action)
. that is how the 4.2 works.

so what engine.?? some have 4.0 engine. so???

I have a 2007 dodge dakota 3.7 liter V-6 with a PO304 troubel code and engine light. What is the engine firing order? I believe this is a coil. What is the resistence of the coil?

Number 4 should be the center cylinder on the passenger side. I think the intake manifold is marked.
Don't know what the coil resistance is, easiest way to check is to swap it with another cylinder and see if the code changes.

2.3 liter dual coil pack fuel injected wiring diagram to fuel pump;relay;inertia switch. geting no fire to igntion switch and when i rewired got fire to switch but not fuels etc.?

Look out under hood on drivers side for a power relay these are known to blow.If its blown it will not allow any power to the ignition system at all.It should be in a fuse panel under the hood.

#4 cylinder missing. Found spark eratic and weak. Wires cap rotor plugs all new needed to replace anyway. Question is does the igniter/module have a magnet in it to pick up the distributer position rotor?...

The part is a ' hall effect ' pick-up switch. it hasn't any magnetic properties of it's own. When the nodes on the distributer shaft crosses the switch it induces a slight current in the switch which then sends it to the igntion system to fire the coil. If there was a problem with the switch it would affect all cylinders.

Obd code po353

P0353 is the DTC (Data Trouble Code) for "Ignition Coil C Primary/Secondary Circuit Malfunction", and it will require the use of a DVOM (Digital Volt/Ohm Meter) to test the coil, and you will need to check the resistance between the primary and secondary windings and they should be between 1500 and 50000 ohm's, and the resistance between the coil windings and ground should read infinity, but I have yet to see a coil that did not need to be replaced when that DTC pops up, and you should replace that coil, and also check to see if the spark plug is worn out, and if is worn out then replace them all along with any worn out or torn coil boots, a worn out spark plug will cause the coil to work harder and shorten the life of the coil.

The "C" coil is the third coil in the firing order, and if you have the 3.2 liter engine then it should be using a COP (Coil On/Over Plug) design and here is a diagram of the firing order and cylinder layout, and you can see that the "C" coil will be on the #3 cylinder and spark plug. (The second or middle spark plug on the right or passenger side of the engine).

The 2.2 liter engine uses separate coil packs, the "C" coil will be for the #4 cylinder and spark plug, and you should replace that coil pack. Also check the spark plugs for wear and the ignition wires should be replaced if they are over five years old and stock wires will usually have a date on them when they were manufactured and installed.

Ignition Distributor location

There is no cap and rotor, as the vehicles igntion system is DIS (digital ignition system). The recommended tune-up on these motors require sparkplug and coil replacement. The coil type in this vehicle is COPs (coil over plugs). Usually moist and oxidation develope on the sparkplug chamber walls from faulty or worn coil boots. This causes the coil to short, they must be replaced at 75,000 miles at the same time the sparkplugs are replaced. Typical symtoms are: Vehicle stalls (restarts and runs normal), intermitted jerks/sputter while driving, misfires, rough idle, severe power loss. Hopefully this helps

My 1999 saturn sl2 will not start. It cranks, fuel pump is working but I no spark from the ignition coils or spark plugs. A few months ago the wipers started acting funny (going off when they wanted to)...

It could be, and almost definitely is very possible its the brain ( ECU or Electronic control module) Will all the things you said it is doing that is probably the problem. Caution : Computer problems are EXPENSIVE

CHECKING IGNITION COILS
1. Measurement of the primary coil resistance. Measure the resistance between connector terminals 3 and 1 (the coils at the No. 1 and No. 4 cylinder sides) of the ignition coil, and between terminals 3 and 2 (the coils at the No. 2 and No. 3 cylinder sides).

2. Measurement of the secondary coil resistance. Measure the resistance between the high-voltage terminal for the No. 1 and No. 4 cylinders, and between the high-voltage terminals for the No. 2 and No. 3 cylinders. Be sure, when measuring the resistance of the secondary coil, to disconnect the connector of the ignition coil.959e0ec.gif

CHECKING SPARK PLUG CABLES 1. Check the cap and outer shell for cracks. 2. Measure the resistance Spark plug cable (SOHC)
Resistance should not be higher than 10,000Ω per foot of cable. If resistance is higher, replace the cable.
