I recently had a wreck in my 1998 jeep cherokee. After having it fixed the steering now feels loose. It was not loose before the wreck. The mechanic that did some of the other work told me he noticed it was loose but thought it was ok but just be aware it was loose. He said it wasn't going to stop steering. I don't know.

Wow,you really should get someone else to look at that.Don't know where it was wrecked but if the steering box was damaged it could be VERY dangerous. Anything loose enough for you to notice a difference is defintely a priorty repair.

I have also noticed it's hard to get the key out of the ignition. It may be the shifter is messed up. It looks like its in park but Im not sure it is since it wont release the key. I think I am in for more money.

The damage from the wreck was all in the front end. It was mostly body work.... with the exception of the overflow on the radiator and a front tranny seal leak. I dont really know if it could have affected the steering box but apparently maybe it did.

Why do Grand Cherokee Limited 1998 over steer?

The mechanical stops for the steering may not be correct, OR it is 'normal' and because the wheel is turned so far the inside tire is really scrunched. Also try increasing the tire pressure to the max in the manual

But the death wobble is caused by the steering shock. Seen it a lot fixes it every time. Hope the info helps rate it please.

Car shudders at low speed when turning

This sounds like there is something worn in the steering. If it is a rack & Pinion steering the rack could be worn out. It could also be the CV joints to the front hubs. Regardless it does not sound safe. Take it to an independent mechanic, NOT THE DEALER, and have it inspected. There typically is not charge to inspect/identify the problem.

My 1999 jeep grand cherokee airbag light and alert keeps going off. How do I fix it?

It's possible the clock spring in the steering column is bad. That would have to be looked at and repaired by a qualified mechanic.

Do you have a Grand Cherokee with full time all wheel drive? If so the viscous coupler in the transfer case could be at fault. They fail 100% of the time in those jeeps at around 100,000 miles + or -. In tight turns after the t-case warms up the Jeep will make an awful howling noise and the tires will usually chirp on pavement. The only fix is an updated viscous coupler or a new t-case.
