D4 gear lights ( dashboard ) starts blinking even I'm using other gears

I thought I'm just overdrive or underdrive but I've noticed that after starting my car, say setting it to D3, after a few meters, D4 gears in the dashboard starts to blink even though I'll shift to other lower gears

Blinking D4 can also mean electical problem. In my case it was ignition switch's life comming to the end. If my ignition switch was finaly dead and I replaced it with a new one D4 was not blinking anymore. If you have problems with ignition switch, for example it will not start engine at first time try to replace it before it will break on the road in least expected moment. I have '95 odyssey. The ignition switch is faulty in time, it was subject of honda factory recall.

The D4 light blinking is the vehicle computer telling you there is a transmission malfunction and transmission codes are stored in the computer's memory. The codes have to be pulled out manually unless it has an OBD2 connector.A transmission shop or Honda dealer can pull the codes.

My 95 Odyssey has the D4 light flashing all the time. It is caused by the Transmission Control Module (TCM) failing to communicate with the Engine Control Module (ECM), which disables the speedometer and odometer. It's a malfunction of the TCM that Honda wants $720 to replace for the part alone. Not worth the money for a vehicle only worth half that much. Several shops told us it was the speed sensor and replaced it multiple times, to no avail. And NO, the ECM does not store TCM codes, only the TCM does that, but no one I've spoken to has been able to pull codes from the TCM or even tell me if it is possible with this OBD1 system. I've gotten over the frustration of the speedo not working and just drive the car, when it will still run. A faulty ignition switch kept it down for a while and now something else is intermittently causing to not run when cranked.

Which gear do you drive in when you drive d4,d3,2,or 1

D4, that is overdrive in a 4 speed automatic. It should go into 4th gear at about 45 mph, although you may not feel it shift. The only reason to use D3 is if you are driving slow, like in city traffic, and the D4 keeps shifting in and out (from 4th to 3rd and back), as if it is "hunting gears". Most people just put it in D4 and drive away.

D4 or d5

In your Lincoln LS, you will have 3 transmission options to choose from. The first is the SelectShift, which operates similar to a manual transmission but without the clutch. The other 2 are the D4 and D5 options that you are referring to. The number after the D is really a reference to how many gears it will shift through. D4 = 4 gears, D5 = 5 gears. All that being said, it really should operate closer to a 4 gear transmission with an overdrive gear when the car is in D5. Think of it like the "drive" and "overdrive" in other cars. I have heard that to maximize fuel economy, use D5 for highway driving and D4 for city driving.

Blinking light means there is a trouble code. There is a procedure to manually pull codes from the computer.Have the codes checked, have them written down.It could be just shift solenoids,or could even be something more serious, but thats the starting point.
