Question about 1996 Hyundai Accent

1 Answer

Hyundai Excel Hi, I was driving to work when my gear box seized. My car will change into first, third and fifth, but not second, fourth or reverse. My clutch seems to be fine, but when I select one of the low gears, it pops out. I have tried bleeding the lines, and there does seem to be a slow leak? Is there anything else it could be? such as the selection shaft?

Replace your input and output speed sensers. They each cost 12.50 at Chrysler dealer. They can give you a diagram as to where they are located. Easy to do.

Change clutch and pressure plate now will not engage in first and second just makes a whining sound but works fine in third fourth fifth and reverse what could be the problem

Good evening from Cyprus Matthew. Is you clutch system Hydraulic or with cable? If it is hydraulic operated, just ask for somebody to help you bleed the system and see whether the fault has been resolved. Sometimes whilst removing the hydraulic slave cylinder from the gearbox housing even without stripped manage to create air bubbles into the system and makes the clutch operation hard life. Also check whether the gear oil you used -if you did- is the correct in specifications ( Viscosity ) according to the make of your vehicle. Good luck.

Hi my Dad has a Daewoo minivan from the year 2000 and the battery keeps going flat. Is there anything about this type of car that would cause the battery to go flat so easily? He is also experiencing...

Only thing I can suggest re battery going flat, is a check of alternator charging, but it is also entirely possible that battery itself has a dead cell and is not capable of holding a charge properly overnight. The latter is more likely, as with a failed alternator, when you presumably jump-start the vehicle, at that point, with both a low battery and dead alternator, car should stall again soon after you disconnect jumper battery.
With the gearbox issue, just sounds like weak synchromesh.

Grinding clutch

I'm a little confused on your description of the noise. If I understand you correctly It is making the noise when it shifts smoothly into gear but at the same time it makes a grinding noise ? It possibly can be synchronizers if the grooves on the inside of the synchronizers are worn bad enough to where the gear isn't slowing down enough causing a grind as the clutching teeth on the gear mesh with the synchrode and the shift collar.
If it is making noise in all gears except 4th you may have countershaft brgs failing. The power flow in 4th gear goes directly through the mainshaft and has a 1 to 1 ratio. All other gears the powerflow goes through the countershaft causing a load on the countershaft so if you have bearings failing in the countershaft you will hear noise in all gears but 4th.
i hope I understood you correctly .

Check first the fluid if it needs replacing or you may need to add more. Dirt in the fluid may be a sign that the valve for the 3rd gear may be dirty or full of debris. If one gear is dirty normally the next gears are affected.
