My ABS (ESP) warning light is permanently on and the glow plug warning light is flashing. Is the brake switch faulty when the horizontal rear window brake light works but the main brake lights don't? Is it something I can fix without taking it to a vw garage (£125+ for diagnostic and brake light switch replacement)

Added some diesel cleaner and went out for a while but now back along with engine management light. Sometimes runs a bit lumpy and feels like it's lacking fuel, other times seems to run fine

Most of the new cars with such computer system to control the engine and other functions , such as brakes, anti-freeze level, that why the light on and tell you that you should watch out certain things, you still can drive the car, but you have to go to the dealer and let them check you car and reset the computer system and then all the light will be off.

I have a vw passat TDI130 2003. It runs really well, but engine workshop lights up along with the esp, abs and the glow plug indicators lighting up, most garages are charging just for a diagnosis to the...

Check & replace if necessary the brake pedal switch placed above pedals on the support.
If the problem still occurs you might access the ESP & ABS ECU (Electronic Control Unit) using diagnostic equipment connected to the data link connector of the car, in order to pull out all DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) memored.
Then you will be able to replace bad piece(s) and fix the problem by erasing all DTC stocked inside ESP & ABS ECU & reset it.
I'm convinced that your brake pedal switch is faulty because the glow plug warning light went ON, along with the ESP & ABS. Just replace the brake pedal switch, see if rear stop lamps light when press the brake pedal, and test the car on the road.

The esp light went on first and then the glow plug warning sign on my 2005 TDi passat. said workshop assistance, what is the problem

The ESP system means the Electronic Stability Program. If the ESP lights on the dashboard permanently the ESP system is faulty. You must access the ESP Electronic Control Unit (ECU) memory for pull out all DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Codes), using diagnostic equipment connected to the data link connector of the car. Then you will be full informed about bad pieces (e.g.: brake pedal switch, front right wheel abs sensor interrupted, ...). After bad pieces replacement you will be able to erase all faults memored by ESP ECU, in other words reset the ESP system and turn off the warning lamp on dashboard.
I'm convinced that your brake pedal switch is faulty because the glow plug warning sign went ON after ESP warning light. Just replace the brake pedal switch, see if rear stop lamps light when press the brake pedal, and test the car on the road.
Good Luck!

Glow plugs warning light + brake lights on

I had EXACTLY the same problem with a friends car i was doing work on.
Your problem is almost certainly a faulty brake light switch. This is a common fault and brings on the dash lights you describe. The switch is located just above the brake pedal and is easy to fit. If you can get the OBD codes read...My guess is it will show up this switch as faulty.
Good luck

VW passat glow plug problem

Yes you have a defective glow plug relay if you have your owners manual you can find it and replace it, the unit also has a timer on it, if you don't have a book look for the glow plugs and follow the wires from the glow plugs to where they terminate there you will find the relay unit and replace it, to test the glow plugs you remove the wires and test each plug by pulling off the wire and with a cheep ohm meter touch one end to the glow plug and one end to ground if it swings almost al the way over it is ok, if it dos not move then that glow plug is bad. if you find 2 or more bad then replace them all, and if a glow plug has shorted and caused this problem you will have to replace the glow plug relay. Good luck.

Turbo lag and lack of power

Hi,
This is the second Vw I have responded to in a fortnight.
Your lack of power I presume always happens when the glow plug light illuminates?
This is because it is causing over combustion to vaporised diesel, I would be looking in the Glow plug timer and relay, as for Turbo lag, I run a E34 6 cyl Bmw Diesel and the Turbo only kicks in around 2,500ish so maybe yours is a little tired or in need of a check up?
Hope this helped,
