What is does the code mean p0708 on a2000 Ford Contour?

The code indicates a problem with the Transmission Speed Selector Switch. It's located on the transmission where the gear selector cable is attached. It sends a signal to the computer, telling it which gear you have selected and which gear the transmission is in, and the computer then controls the shift according to conditions (throttle position, engine RPM, manifold vacuum, and etc.) The problem is most likely in the switch itself. Here's a link where some good instructions are given for changing the switch. http://www.justanswer.com/ford/628on-ford-contour-need-know-transmission-range-sensor.html

I can't figure out how to get the rear brake shoes back. My Haynes manual doesn't explain how to get them back on. Does anyone have any diagrams on how they go back on?

Brake shoes or Pads. My contour has disk brakes all round. You may have to screw the piston back in(clockwise) to get more room for the pads. This is because the parking brake has a screw device to actuate the parking brake. and you have to turn it to get it to go further in..Hope this helps.

How to assemble back brakes

The best thing to do is to go to your nearest auto store and buy a Haynes manual for your specific auto, then you will have the solutions to many such problems.
If you don't do that, what you can do is take off the opposite wheel and take a very careful look at how the brakes are assembled on that one. The one you are working on is simply a mirror image.
I strongly sugges the manual, but I hope this helps.

No brake lights on a 1996 ford contour ..3rd light and blinkers work fine I have ohm'd out brake switch on pedal and it is good ..blinkers on front and back both work.. no power to bulb socket on brown to...

The brake lights (excluding the 3rd brake light) go through the turn signal switch. It's possible there's a bad connection in the switch causing your symptoms. I would rule out the brake switch on the pedal, considering the third brake light works. Locate a wiring diagram for the brake light circuit, follow the wires into the steering column as far as you can and verify it's getting power up until the turn signal switch and verify no power is coming out of it. Once that's determined it's time to replace the switch.
