Question about 1996 Pontiac Bonneville SE CA Value

Electrical, I'm guessing. power window with starting problem

Sometimes my 1996 Pontiac Boneville won't start or will stop running if I mess with the power window switch. Then if I turn the ignition switch on and off a bunch of times the window will start working and the car will start. I'm assuming the ignition switch is malfunctioning. HELP please before I take the steering column apart to try and fix it...or maybe that's exactly what I have to do? If anyone has had this problem and has some tips I would appreciate it. Thanx

That happened in my car. It is known issue with these vehicles. One of two things are wrong. 1. replace the fuel pump. It is on same currant with power seat, windows, etc. Replacing fuel pump fixed my problem. 2. there is a module that sits in the lower A pillar down by the drivers feet. This module (nothing more than a piece of metal incased in plastic) is not covered properly by manufacturer. Since it sits so low, it gets damp and corodes. Another friend had same problem on his car so we pulled that module, cleaned it, resealed properly so moisture does not get and and put back. Car error free since! I hope this helps.

Why does my 2004 pontiac boneville start up then shut off again within a few seconds?

most people who do not do the first step generally go crazy chasing the problem
the first step is to have the fault codes read as they are there as a diagnostic tool to stop people from going crazy

1996 pontiac firebird will start up and then it will die . The fuel pump is working.

Well the fuel filter would be an easy choice, but it could be something electrical.
You'll need to figure out if you are missing fuel pressure or spark when it stops running to know how to proceed.

My asb light comes on when starting and stays on. Lights won't come on , power locks won't work, power windows won't work, radio won't work. All fuses are good and car runs fine.

Those are all really common symptoms of the alternator going bad on those cars. I would have it checked to make sure it's charging properly.

How to change the belt on 1996 pontiac boneville

on the 3.8 liter v6, the pulley on the a/c compressor can be replaced if it is locked up (frozen) on the compressor. the question is what is actually locked up? if the a/c compressor is locked up but the a/c compressor pulley turns, then you need to disconnect the wire harness connecter that is on the a/c compressor pulley/clutch so you can run the defrost on the climate control. many GM cars will run the a/c when you switch the climate control to defrost especially in the winter so the a/c system stays lubed and does not lock up the a/c compressor from lack of use. you can then relace the belt without replacing the compressor pulley/clutch assembly. if the compressor pulley/clutch assembly is locked up, it will need to be replaced. i do not believe there is a way to route the belt bypassing the a/c compressor. you dont want the water pump turning in the wrong direction if you reroute the belt wrong or the engine will overheat. i hope this helps!

HAVE NO JUICE GOING TO MY ELECTRIC DOOR LOCK SWITCH. CHECKED FUSES AND THERE ALL GOOD. WHAT NOW? 1990 PONTIAC BONEVILLE.

Most of the electrical components in the door are powered by a small bundle of wires that runs from the engine compartment into the drivers door. Quite often when there is a problem with a door-based electrical component, if the fuses are fine then the problem is in the wiring, and more then likely there is a fault located within the section of exposed wire between the door frame and the door. With a 19 year old car, these wires have been flexed hundreds of thousands of times, exposed to all kinds of weather and will eventually wear out. Start by looking at those wires and then tracing from there.
