Go to autozone and have the code scanned. And come back here to ask more question. Otherwise you are wasting money.

I am assuming that you have a V6 Engine because 1, 3 and 5 would be on the other side of 2, 4 and 6. A Striaght in line engine would have them all in a row.

But another way to locate your spark plugs would be to find your Spark plug wires and follow them to the spark plug.

Good Luck

Intermittent missfire # 3 cyl. 2004 ford escape 3.0

I have a 2002 Escape 3L. Your 2004 is probably the same. I have over 100,000 miles. I have had the P030x code a couple times. Each time it was one of the COPs (Coil over Plug). Each spark plug has it's own coil on top of the spark plug. The last time, I replaced all 6 coils (and 6 plugs). It's a fairly common issue on the Escapes.

You could try to switch the coil with another coil and see if the misfire moves with the coil.
Unfortunetly, the #1, #2, & #3 coils are in the back of the engine under the intake manifold. The intake needs to be removed to access the plugs and coils.

If you're going to do this yourself, I recommend replacing all 6 plugs and coils. Use the same brand plugs as the old. The OEM coils can be expensive $75? each. I got my aftermarket coils on Ebay for $80? for 6 coils delivered. You'll also need the gasket set for the upper intake manifold ($10). If you have some wrenching experience, it's not too difficult... it just takes some time to remove the intake and the plumbing attached to it.

2003 ford escape. 75,000 miles on it. Sputters

What engine do you have?
I have a 2002 Escape with 3.0 V6. It sounds like the ignition is getting damp and the engine is misfiring. If the CEL is flashing, you really shouldn't be driving it. Check the owners manual, but you could damage the engine.
Anyway, go to an Autozone or other parts store. Many will scan your engine for the DTC code for free. This code will give you a clue.
My code was for a for a cylinder misfire. I was close to 100,000 miles, so I replaced the plugs first, then the one coil. It was the coil.

Changing plugs and power steering pump on an escape

I have a 2002 Escape V6 w/ 100,000 miles and I just changed the plugs. If you have a V6, you will have to remove the Upper Intake manifold. It's not too bad. You'll new a gasket set from Autozone or NAPA for about $10
