Question about 1983 Chevrolet Silverado

Lowering shackles I am trying to lower the rear of my truck with lowering shackles and it keeps raising it instead I have only tried the one side. what am I doing wrong? I am installing it like to factory one I removed.

Make sure shackle is shorter than one removed.

If you are talking about lowering the car by the use of shorter shackles then it is possible to get a vibration from the drive shaft of the car. What you are doing is lowering the gearbox extension housing in relation to the diff pinion and that alters the working angles of the tail shaft causing a harmonic vibration. After you have finished you work on the car have a tail shaft manufacturer check the angles as it may be necessary to roll the diff housing a few degrees or lift the rear engine mount a bit to correct that working angle.

My convertibe Audi A4 roof is not closing, it stopped 3/4 way, what do i do, i have tried pressing the buttons, back and forth?


Look in owners manual,it will show you how to raise/lower roof with tool end of dash driver side
Once you have the tool the best way to reset roof is to manualy lower it and lock rear cover
Two people helps to lower as you have to lift front of roof and lift rear
When rear metal cover is unlocked push roof fully down and lock cover
The roof should then work with the switch

My right rear window will not operate from the drivers side nor the right rear door...my first notice of the problem was when I lowered it slightly and it would not raise..I lowered it a little more and it...


sounds like a wiring issue either loose,corroded, disconnected at drivers main control switch
we no the motor is ok if goes down, both switches going bad is unlikely..pull the switch & check
for 12v in both directions

At first I thought my cv joint was going bad on my 2000 Silverado (classic popping sound) then I turned down my stereo and realized it was coming from the rear drivers side. When I pump the breaks it will...


First thing to verify (since its hard to isolate these sounds without using this little trick), turn off
stereo and while driving forward or turning stick an ear (or two) out the driver's window and
make sure the sound is coming from the rear diver's side.

Assuming that the sound is coming from the rear driver's side, you'll suspect the rear
suspension components: rear ball joints, shock mounts (upper & lower), trailing arm. The only
way to check
your rear suspension components is to jack up vehicle, remove L rear tire, and look for
anything loose, or missing a bolt or a nut (this happens more often than you'd ever
guess - they vibrate loose).
Also: axle shaft bearing - worn/damaged/dry. Replace or lubricate (if dry).

How do i replace shackles on 1997 dogde dakota


Jack up the rear, put jack stands at the frame on both sides. Put jack under center of the differential and loosen and remove the shakles, you may need to lower or raise the differential.

Replacing front shackle 1983 jeep cj7


Shackles are pretty straight forward. Remove the existing bolts, change the shackles and reverse the procedure to install. Good idea to change the bushings while you're in there if they are at all questionable. It's best to do this with the CJ in the air, supported on the frame and use a floor jack under the axle to lift/lower the spring in/out of the shackle, one side at a time.

How do u take of the spring in the back


Block the front wheels, Raise the back end axle included intil tires are a couple inches off the ground. and support the body with jack stands. Then remove the spring u-bolt nuts. Now let the jack down and tap the u-bolt lower plate until they break loose drom the lowering of the axle weight. Remove u- bolts. now take the shackle end loose (back end of spting) then the frony spring end Keep in mind the vwhicle ia on stands, so don't **** and pull on anything. Do not use your pinky to line up holes on assembly. Screwdriver or centering punch. Lube all fasteners so you don't have squeeks.When tightening u-bolts alternate between the front and rear nut to pull u-boltdown evenly Tap on the u- bolt while tightening to keep the bolt centered vertically or it will creak and crunch. With all assembled, Drive the vehicle around making leftt and right turs and through a few dips. Reck u-noltnuts again and tighten if needed. If the u-bolts are not vertically straight yhey will come loose. Just tap them back and forthand they wiull find their own center@ the Loosest point. Good Luck and be ever aware of the vehicle and jack stand stability. _Ned_

How to remove rear axels

  1. Raise and support vehicle. Support at frame behind front springs.
  2. Remove front wheels.
  3. Scribe alignment marks on propeller shaft and axle yoke for proper assembly, then disconnect propeller shaft at axle yoke.
  4. Disconnect connecting rod at steering knuckles.
  5. Disconnect shock absorbers at axle housing.
  6. Remove stabilizer bar connecting links to spring tie plates attaching bolts, if equipped.
  7. Disconnect breather tube at axle housing.
  8. Disconnect stabilizer bar link bolts at spring clips.
  9. Remove disc brake calipers, rotors and brake shields.
  10. Remove U-bolts and tie plates.
  11. Support axle assembly with suitable jack to relieve spring tension.
  12. Loosen rear spring shackle to spring attaching bolts.
  13. Remove front spring shackle to spring attaching bolts and lower spring to floor.
  14. Remove axle from under vehicle.
  15. Reverse procedure to install.

I have a 94 jeep wrangler front left axle seal bad. I took the left side apart and not sure how to get the seal back in. Do I need to open the inspection cover on the diff. and take the gears out?



Rear Axle Notes
  1. Raise and support vehicle.
  2. Remove rear wheels.
  3. Scribe alignment marks on propeller shaft and axle for proper assembly, then disconnect propeller shaft from axle.
  4. Disconnect the track bar from axle mounting bracket.
  5. Disconnect parking brake cable at equalizer.
  6. Disconnect shock absorbers at axle tubes.
  7. Disconnect hydraulic brake hose at rear axle Tee-fitting, then tape ends of hose and fitting to prevent contamination.
  8. Disconnect axle vent tube from axle.
  9. Remove U-bolts and tie plates.
  10. Loosen spring mounting bolts.
  11. If equipped, disconnect ABS wiring connections at axle.
  12. Support axle with suitable jack.
  13. Remove spring-to-shackle attaching bolts and lower spring to the floor.
  14. Remove axle assembly.
  15. Reverse procedure to install.

Front Axle Notes
  1. Raise and support vehicle at frame behind front springs.
  2. Remove front wheels.
  3. Scribe alignment marks on propeller shaft and axle yoke for proper assembly, then disconnect propeller shaft at axle yoke.
  4. Disconnect connecting rod at steering knuckles.
  5. Disconnect shock absorbers at axle housing.

Lowering/raising the spare tire


there should be a crank handle under the hood and an access hole just above rear bumper
