Jack up your Cherokee and look underneath for a wiring harness that leads to a sensor that is between the engine and trans. This is your crank sensor. Pull it out and check the condition. Mainly look at the wiring harness to the sensor. These Jeeps have a habit of breaking and your Jeep with just turn off going down the road. These wiring harnesses are available at the dealer and are fairly inexpensive.

On the Jeep models, ESP means electronic stability program which is the same as traction control. There are 3 different versions of four wheel drive on Jeep Grand Cherokees with the base version being all wheel drive. Your owners manual should tell you which version you have and how it operates.
Sorry your doing something wrong or the amplifier is faulty ,under the back seat their is a amplifier on some models i discovered by accident as iam a europeon mechanic unacustomed to working on yank tanks .Or should i say iam a cowboy with a big hammer who beats things into submission so they work .
good afternoon i have an jeep grand cherokee problem this morning while im driving to work the car just shut off and when i took to the repair man. P0505 means the whole Idle Control system, not only the IAM. Check all related sensors (i.e. crankshaft sensor). Check with a voltmeter direct at the connector of the IAM if you get any signal. Remove the IAM from the TB, connect him, let someone switch your ignition key to ON. The IAM need to drive in/out for a short time to find the right position. Hold the IAM near a hard part, that they cant drive out completely! If IAM works fine, check the fuel pressure, check and clean your TB ( if not done yet). If that doesn't work, come back again please
Sounds like you have a "parts replacer" not a technician. What kind of testing was done? Or. is he just guessing and charging you for that? What's wrong with the harness that was not wrong since "99? Unless it was crushed or cut or burned, the only problem with a harness generally is that where each wire enters the pin at it's end, sometimes that connection will deteriorate, and the pin will show no voltage. It may be time consuming to find the pin(s) but knowing the symptoms eliminate a lot of them. When found, usually the connection can easily be restored or pin can be changed. I don't enjoy that work but have done it many times, always with good results.
I had a problem with my Jeep doing the same thing. It turned out to be the Crank shaft senor. It would just turn off even on the highway at 60mph.
If you can change it yourself you will save a lot of money.
