Sync will not recognize ipod in usb port

Just picked up an 08 focus and tried to use the ipod in the usb port and it comes back no usb attached. Cords are fine. Then I heard to pull the fuze and reset the sync. Now I cannot find the fuze box. Manual stated its on driver side next to brake pedal, but its not there there is one inside the engine compartment but that is main power distribution box.
Any ideas on problem and where is the fuze box?

Actually, I've had this happen twice to me. The first time I **** at the dealership (the car was just 2 weeks old). They took the car for the day and fixed it but wouldn't really tell me what they did. The second time it happened I fixed it myself. DO ALL THIS WITH THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION. Under the driver's side dash, right to the left of the steering wheel column (or to the right if you are hanging upside down trying to see down there ;-) ) you'll notice a black plug-like object with a thick bound cable running out of it. The thing to note here is there is a white locking lever on the plug. If you pull down the white lever, the plug lock will release. Then, gently pull the plug away from the base it is plugged into - you have now unplugged sync. Wait a few seconds and plug it back in. Be very careful to guide it in correctly as it has tons of pins and you don't want to bend any of them. Once back in, re-engage the white locking lever. Finally, turn your car back on. Once on, the USB port should now work but most likely Sync will still have problems recognizing the device (especially one thats been previously paired/indexed). If it does, perform a 'master reset' of sync through its advanced menu. After doing all of the above, I was able to re-add my iphone as a USB music device and bluetooth phone. Let me know if this helps?

Thank you for these instructions. I followed step by step exactly what you wrote. I unplugged that bound cable and left it unplugged for a few minutes. I had trouble plugging it back in so I removed the panel just below the steering column which collapses down and that gave me extra light to see what I was doing. This plugin must be a main module for the whole centre console. As I plugged it back in, I noticed my ambient lighting and 12 volt outlets came on. When I turned the key into the ignition, it immediately found my iPOD. Thanks again for the tip!

    Cheers.

Hi there... Main reset didnt help so I was planning to follow the first solution...I came up with another way. (I didnt want to risk bending the pins) I popped the hood up, disconnected the + side of the battery, waited 30 minutes. Hooked it up again.. I saw the USB right away...

My 2011 Hyundai i20 usb port isn't working? Can someone help me?

Hi Kate, Try a 4GB USB stick formatted in FAT32 and having only MP3 files. Some Hyundai vehicles seem to have a problem reading USB sticks above 4GB and the makes of pen drives is an issue too.

No sound

Can you provide more info on your situation, such as the model of your MP3 player and how you're attempting to attach it to speakers? If you're trying to do it in a new(er) vehicle, chances are that the car isn't recognizing the mp3 player as being attached...mostly due to the fact that for some reason most cars only want you to own an iPod before they'll recognize them...I have a friend that had the exact same problem...her Hyundai only likes iPods....

I own a 2009 Hyundai Elantra and was told I could plug my iPod into the iPod USB port using my iPod cable (Apple's). However, neither my iPod Touch or iPod Nano work. Once connected, it just says "Reading...

I have used the Apple iPod cable with no problem in the Elantra USB port with an iPod Nano & iPod Classic. You have to change the music settings, skip songs, etc. from the iPod which is distracting while driving.

I purchased the cord made by Hyundai at the dealership, that plugs into both USB and aux port. The music titles, album info etc show up on the radio screen, and you can use the buttons on the radio to change the tunes, view artists, albums... (safer while driving!). I've seen sellers on eBay that sells the Hyundai made one (cheapest starts @ $24+ w/ s/h - link here) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-HYUNDAI-2009-09-iPOD-INPUT-USB-AUX-AUDIO-CABLE_W0QQitemZ230379648893QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCar_Audio_Video?hash=item35a3b2777d&_trksid=p4506.m20.l1116, as well as copycat ones - I wouldn't buy a copycat one (my opinion).

Do you have a case on your iPods? I have experienced the "reading error" with the Hyundai cord on my son's iPod Classic (he has a leather case on it). It seems to do that because the plug going in to the iPod is not making full contact with the iPod because of the case. When he takes the case off and reconnects, there are no further problems.

Hope this helps, Good luck!

IPod connection problem with Ford Focus

I think you have to connect both the line-in to the earphone-connector and the USB to the USB-connector on the iPod.
Don't ask me why, but that seems to work (according to another Dutch forum http://www.focusclub.nl/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4201&sid=be5c9f538bd310a274324907aff98513). I haven't tested it yet (don't have a line-in to line-in cable).

Cant bond mobile phone to 6000cd unit

Looks like your car (most SE's as well) doesn't have the SYNC feature that enables bluetooth handsfree through the speakers as well as media device connectivity. I have an SE, but specifically made sure that it had SYNC before purchasing. You may be able to find an aftermarket solution such as a GPS unit with bluetooth (Always good to know where you're going anyways) but without spending too much money, you won't be able to run it through your speakers.
