Hi

One major cause of a hot engine cutting out is crank sensor failure. The sensor overheats, the engine cuts out, and then once everything cools back down the engine will start and run again.

Another possible cause is the O2 sensor.

A live scan would show up any problems.

Regards

Geordie

Won't blow hot air, engine heats up at high speed

If your radiator is full of water, then its probably the thermostat sticking. The thermostat is located on top of the engine, under the housing that the radiator hose goes to

My car seems to always stall in heavy rain. The other problem is that my fuel gage needle, speedometer and mileage clock is not working.

Replace all your ignition wires with OEM quality new ones. They are leaking ignition voltage to ground when damp. Can't help you with the instruments. No sweat to fix but I'd have to be there.

I have a 98 golf gl that keeps cutting out when it heats up i want to know what relay it would be and where does it go.

When you say heats up do you mean between the cold and hot in the middle which is normal operating range or are you over heating and the temp safety system is doing what it is designed to do and shutting your engine down so you don't damage your engine. Check you water pump, Thermostat and radiator before you try pulling or bypassing that switch or you could ruin your vehicle beyond repair.

I have a vw golf gti the engine is over heating and the heaters are only blowing cold the temperature gage goes to the red i have took the thermostat out and replaced it with a new one but the problem is...

Have you replaced the original water pump that has a plastic impeller? This can crack where it is connected to the shaft for the pulley. When it does it will spin slower or not spin at all at higher engine speeds although it might seem fine during idle. When you do this repair I suggest to do the timing belt service too. Water pump repair calls for timing belt removal to access the water pump bolts. It's best to consider timing belt repair work so you won't have to do it later on.

U have a problem with the air temp control blend door actuator motor, very common failure. In order to replace this part the dash must come out.

Overheating

if you have a 2.0 you check your water pump.. they have plastic impellors on the water pump and frequently break, I have seen many that wont heat up too much while idling with a/c off but will overheat going down the road, the problem is that where the impellor connects to the waterpump shaft cracks and works somewhat until you accelerate the engine, which causes more pressure and will make the impellor to start slipping.

Sounds like a bad thermostat. Its either stuck open or stuck closed. Get it replaced ASAP before you do damage to the engine.
