VERY Bizarre Combination of "Symptoms" I Believe Relating to Clutch or Transmission, or heaven forbid worse! Please help!

Hi,

First, congrats on the most detailed problem description I have ever seen! Seriously, it does assist us.

All this is completely consistent with your clutch not releasing properly, meaning that the gearbox is still turning when the pedal is depressed. The syncros in the gearbox will then keep you out of gear, that is what they should do. You can indeed shift into higher gears however when driving as the gearbox revs more nearly match to what is needed. The jerking forward when you hit the starter is due to the poor old starter motor having to move the whole car instead of just the engine, because the clutch has not released !

Now as to why, it is likely that the clutch release fork has broken, inside the housing. I had this once with a Mazda, and symptoms were exactly as you describe. The gearbox has to be removed if this is the problem, and you should also then take the chance to renew the clutch, pressure and driven plate both, unless quite new.

Also a possible cause is a complete loss of clutch fluid if a hydraulic clutch, or a broken cable if that type of clutch. Loss of fluid in a hydraulic clutch can be easily checked in the fluid reservoir, and can occur if a hose splits

Car wont move when in gear on a manual transmission

If the engine stalls with the vehicle in gear and the clutch released, your brakes are locked.
If the engine continues running as though you are in neutral, your clutch has failed.

Car will go in gear but will not move when clutch is released, any ideas will be helpful.thanks

Either the clutch has failed, or something inside the transmission has broken.
Can you shift gears with the engine running and not depressing the clutch ? Can you put the transmission in first gear and move the car by hand ?

2003 ford transit turbo manual gearbox, stuck in 2nd gear, cant start

does the clutch push normally or is the linkage broken not disengaging clutch, and then does shifter move around or locked and wont move, loose linkage in shifter or gears are jammed inside transmission and something went, if shifter wont move at all then trans is jammed inside and needs repair.

Hard to shift into first gear

Tighten clutch cable until the car would start to move when the clutch peddle is 50% depressed, Before you do that, with the clutch fully depressed and in 2nd gear, start the car and slowly let off the clutch. You may find that the clutch has to be released virtually all the way before the car moves. It should be at about that 50% I spoke about

I turn the key everything works but the car won't start

If it's an automatic transmission "make sure" it's in park or neutral. If so possibly a bad neutral safety switch. If a Manual transmission just get a bunch of friends to push you and pop the clutch in 1st or 2nd gear....and away you go. Make sure you turn the key when popping the clutch.

The problem sounds like the clutch. If you put it in 1st., then start it up, does it try to move with you foot on the clutch? Does the clutch pedal feel different than normal.
