I did this by putting car on jack stands so the suspension was all the way down. CAUTION: Open trunk and turn off jack up switch located on left side of trunk wall. Rich

Not a good idea.... but can try.

There is very little info on this subject online and I don't have a manual that describes the steps, but if one can do struts and shocks, what additional special tools, techniques, etc. would be needed?

As long as you are aware of the potential energy (in every suspension system)... and remember to shut off the compressor BEFORE you start... THESE parts sell like hot cakes...

Check out your prices on rockauto.com & don't forget folks like AUTOZONE have tool lending programs.

Personally I'm more afraid of SPRINGS than air-bags... I've had a spring break while I was working on it... V-v-very SCARY!!!

96 grand marquis...air suspension light stays on all the time...system seems to work fine otherwise...

If everything is working fine, then you need to decide if it is worth the time and expense of repairing the circuit that leaves the light on when it should be off. I would leave it alone and if the lamp bothers you that much you can remove it or cover it with a piece of black tape.

1995 lincoln towncar air bag trouble: How do I reset system after code 12 repair. showing code 52 now.

Are you sure it's a code 52? I'm not seeing a 52 in the code index. Btw, code 12 is that the system passed it's automatic test. You could continue the chase to fix the air, but on a 20 year old car, it maybe a good idea to do an air suspension conversion on your Town Car and be done with it forever. Air bag pump is running, new airbags . rear bags wont air up.

These Lincoln air suspensions are terrible. I have converted many over to coil springs at a fraction of the cost of replacing/repairing the bags. If the rear bags don't inflate, there is a broken air line to the bags or the bags are leaking

Trying to find a wiring diagram for air compressor. Rear air ride is out compressor not running at all checked fuses just replaced relay .

I know that you are trying to fix that air ride, but i put these replacement springs on my 93 towncar. Fixed the compressor problem (eliminated it) and cost a whole lot less. The install is kinda hard if you've never dropped a rear end before. Need a good tool set, a couple jacks, and jack stands to get it done. Check it out. Even having a mechanic install them would be cheaper than replacing a compressor.

1996 Lincoln Towncar Air Suspension Light on and Car shutting off

Check the charging system and check it while the car and engine are hot. The alternator is starting to fail when hot. If the engine is not hot the failure will not show up. And yes I have seen this happen on many cars of all types. A lot of mechanics forget that the problem may not show up till car and alternator are hot.

ten to one your boot (the thing that holds the air) was damaged either by the blowout or by the tech what repaired your flat. Probably by the blowout.

92 lincoln towncar air bag light flashing

Air suspension is controlled by the compressor in your engine compartment.  The compressor runs when the suspension is not level.  Either because you have loaded the car with exceptional weight and the system is now adjusting the ride, or you have a leak in the system, or you have a bad sensor.
If you have a leak, the most likely culprit are the air suspension bags, the air suspension solenoids or possibly the lines to them.

I don't work for either of them.  I own a 96 TC and have replaced my air suspension with coil springs form Strutmasters.  Work GREAT and I have no more air suspension problems.  Rides just as good too.  You can't tell the difference.
